Now he's eaten Chocolate Brownies...

Not a good day... was upstairs bathing DD while DS watched TV. DDog helped himself to an entire box of Sainsbury's bite sized brownies... off to the vets and I am £150 lighter. DH was out at the time and is fuming.

Posting this mainly to vent, but also to let any new dog owners know that chocolate is toxic to dogs, and can lead to a very sick dog or a very large vets bill

This is Rafa's second adventure with choc.. he got the advent calendar at xmas!

I read somewhere that chocolate is also very addictive to dogs so once they've had it they are more likely to seek it out ,

He must quite like chocolate...or the vet...

I knew it was poisonous but can I ask, what did the vet do? I'm not a dog owner but MIL is and I'm certain he's snaffled lots of choc stuff over the years but she's never taken him to the vet over it

The vet assesses how much he has eaten in comparison to his body weight. He is a toy poodle so doesn't need much for it to be too much. She gives him something to make him vomit, then when she thinks he has sicked it all up ( tmi?) she gives him something to make him stop. Then I have to give him charcoal tablets for 2 days. Then she gives me an invoice

Mine's definitely got the taste - he got dds advent calender at Xmas only a couple of poor quality chocolates but then sniffed out a Christmas present of expensive chocolates stashed in my wardrobe. It was too late to do any thing by the time I discovered what he'd done. I spent an interesting night with him charging round the house as if on drugs.

He was ok thankfully but I'm paranoid it will happen again to the point that dds can't have chocolate as they can't be trusted to not leave it lying around
