Not sure who hates this weather more me or the wheaten pup

Honestly its doing my head in, I'm sick of the mud bath my garden has become, I feel sorry that pups toileting could be better but she hates the rain and will try her best to go on the sly indoors when I'm full on busy with kids

It's crap for socialisation as well shes scared of other pups and hates the car so I'm trying to take her in the car to parks etc but there's barely a sole out because of this rubbish weather.

And I'm stressed about my puppy class homework of sit, stand, down and recall. She's good with sit but the other 2 forget it and recall Jesus I'm swear I can hear her say "do one Mum" under her breath but wheatens are unreliable with recall apparently.

Sorry I'm hungry, muddy, have a massive headache and needed to vent so feel free to ignore

Its a pain isn't it! Everywhere we go is so boggy that the 20 minute walk hardly seems worth the mess. Are you clicker training? That has helped us tremendously with training, although many of the pups at our class took ages so i really wouldn't worry. We had to go to classes as it was in tin rescue contract, but in reality i got much better tips from here and from you tube.

Our pup was also scared of other dogs. I did lead walks around the streets with her which meant she could meet dogs in a very controlled way, rather than the hit and miss me parks where some would jump all over her and scare her.

I was blinked but my oh came home drunk after the match and switched the fire on, the fire that we never use so its where i keep pups clicker, comb and scissors for convenience now that they're melted they're not that convenient anymore. Have ordered 3 new clickers from Amazon though

My rescue little dog of 2 years-old has very thick hair. The last time I took her for a walk in the usual dog track, she came back with burrs and other seeds stuck in her fur, which hurt her as I combed them out.
Luckily I found another walk on tarmac with no trees just round the corner from me.
I have had trouble with her during the 2.5 months of having her, with house training, but seemed sorted when taking her for a walk morning and afternoon.

Until last Sunday morning when she did a poo in the kitchen in the night, and again this morning and a wee. Had her breakfast at 8am and took her for a walk at 10am. Not sure if she had another poo, but took her twice on the morning walk and eventually did another one.

She doesn't care about the weather, but does go round puddles, and I go out when it's not raining. The dog walk I take now is not muddy.

This weather is awful if you have a puppy. It will get better, when you feed her less often, she will poo less often.

Oh poor you, with kids to look after as well. You sound so fed up and weary.
I'm retired, widowed, orphaned with no grand children, and have arthritis. Walking little dog has given my hip and leg problems.
But she's my baby - my only one.

How old is your pup now and how often does she need to be fed?

I'm sorry I was such a grump earlier at the end of the day it ain't gonna change the weather we just have to get on with it I suppose my 14 week old pup can't miss what she's never seen but its annoying knowing that things would be better for her if it was drier! She's currently on 3 meals a day I think that reduces to 2 at 6 months

Good. With only 2 feeds a day, you can expect 2 poos plus another in the morning, but maybe different from day to day.

I hated my walk this afternoon as was drizzling and bitingly cold.
But was necessary, as I had been out this morning and she missed her morning poo walk. She did it in the afternoon, thank goodness and nothing in the house

Winter is not the best time to get a pup.

It will get better as she matures and Spring eventually does arrive - I hope!

hi notonschoolnight - I lost the plot and got a 3rd dog last June, I'm 64 next month and decided if I was ever to have a puppy, rather than rescue dogs, I'd better get on with it. I seemed to spend so much time for the first couple of months, standing in the garden, in my wellies and a waterproof hat, getting soaked toilet training. He is an apricot cockapoo, so every walk in the park/fields etc mean he had to be washed off on return as his coat and personality equal mud magnet. I imagine your wheaten will be very similar. It'll get easier honestly - my pups best pal at training is a wheaton of a similar age, he is a real character, but like all terrors, has a mind of his own. It's like babies honestly, you blink and they are a year old and life is so much easier.

My little dog is no terror as very quiet, BUT she is stubborn and turns a deaf ear when she doesn't want to do what I say, which on walks happens constantly.

About to go out for her poo walkies and hoping it stays dry - she doesn't care though.

I have a wheaten too. He's now 10 months old and is just lovely. But I found the summer holidays last year v stressful. New pup, not toilet trained, and 2 kids off school was hard work. He hated going out in the rain at first, but doesn't bother now. He also hated the car and would get distressed and make a mess whenever he went in it. He's fine in the car now too. As others have said, it's like a new baby, hard work at first but one day you realise it's suddenly become easier. Our wheaten is super friendly with other dogs & people, too friendly in fact. He definately displays the wheaten greeting! His recall is a bit better but still not v reliable. He's lots of fun tho!
