The rescue have given me a questionnaire and I have to look out for things they have and don't have ( fenced garden etc) but do I sit and go thought the qs with them ( 3 pages) or write in as I chat, look round etc.
Any experienced home checkers advice gratefully received!

Not a home checker but i had a home check recently. She didn't have any paper work that she filled in when she was here but she did ask certain questions and chatted about dogs in general. She wanted to make sure we had considered security, safety (we adopted a puppy) as well as things like training and feeding. She gave me some great advice and advised a good vet to use.

Oh and we didn't sit down at all. Just chatted as we walked around. I think all the set questions occurred pretty naturally anyway

Hi! I do Homechecks for a couple of rescues, it's a great job! And not hard, seriously most of it is common sense and if they've given you a questionnaire you'll be fine! Smile Remember in most cases the people will already have been seen and interrogated questioned by the rescue so really you're just confirming that what they have already told the rescue is true.

Also remember that if you do have any reservations all you need to do is pass the information on to the rescue and it's up to them to decide if it's an issue, not you.

You'll meet all sorts, some visits will be brief and to the point, others they'll be really chatty and excited but remember all of them are out to impress you so just relax and enjoy talking 'dog' for half an hour. Smile
