Does anyone use and recommend something for the yellow patches on grass?

Even if it only helps a bit and isn't a miracle worker I'm still interested, she's on a barf diet which apparently can help a little, but just while I've been playing with her( she brought back the frisbee 3 times for me to throw again well chuffed she's never done that before) I started to notice the little patches.

I couldn't find anything with good reviews so we made a bark patch and trained them to go there. Unfortunately pup is a dogger so lawn is wrecked again and we need to make a sandpit!

Somebody suggested tomato ketchup in their food? I have no knowledge whether this works or not tbh.

My friends have two dogs also on a barf diet and they give them tinned chopped tomatoes (cheap own brand stuff) every two or three days and consider this helps reduce the yellow patches.

I'm trying the tomato ketchup in food at the moment.

I also read somewhere about keeping a watering can full of water then diluting where the wee is, trouble is you don't always see them wee when you send them out to play or its dark.

Last year we bought loads of packets of grass seed from the £1 shop and threw all that down and the really bad patch we replaced with a roll of turf from B&Q - having had a look round the back lawn this week as its nice and dry the worst place is where we returfed it!.

Also, DH are in a bit of a standoff re the lawn. Intially, puppy always went to the woodchipped area. DH liked that as he is completely anal about his lawn, honest! I am probably equally anal about my floor being clean and the woodchip gets everywhere. Puppy started running to the bottom of the lawn and going there, which, in truth I haven't discouraged and I am assuming he will cock his leg against a wall or tree or something eventually (which he is already doing on walks).

Aware we are not being consistent

My mate has two fairly large dogs - they seem to pee a lot (I only have cats!)

She bought something called "DOG ROCKS" off t'internet that go in the dogs' water bowl. Apparently the minerals in the rocks change the pH of the urine slightly, thus not burning the grass that it is - um, deposited - on.

Our grass is a mess what with the weeing and the digging. DH is trying to come up with a rescue mission for it but is suspect he may not win this battle. A sandpit is an excellent idea though. He might go with that. Pup likes digging on the beach.

We tried the dog rocks. Complete rip off and made no difference. I just wish I had the idea to flog pebbles for a stupid price !

We fenced off the lawn as nothing worked unless you follow the dog with a watering can all the time.

We've tried dogs rocks and I don't think they worked.

I read about the tomato ketchup on here, I mix a dessert spoonful in their teatime meal.

We are renting until next year so are trying to keep the back lawn nice (if we owned the house I would have artificial grass).

Just had a look on Amazon at the Natural Green Grass Patch - will keep it in mind for when we move out and have our inspection

We looked into artificial grass ,but apparently determined diggers can still ruin it so we discounted it and put an ornamental fence around the patio instead hence the dog cannot get on the grass or near any plants . He has a sandpit on the patio which he loves and my garden has never looked better .

One of the "chase dog around with watering can school" here. Last piddles at night on bedtime walk rather than lawn.. to save the spectacle of me with headlamp on my forehead and wearing my nightie.
Like Yuleheart lots of cheap grass seed spread in the spring and patches tended during the summer immediately .

Wish I had known about tomato ketchup and rocks.

ps - DH thought you put tomato ketchup on the yellow patches of grass

Girls urine is worse that boys in doggy terms for yellow patches too I think?

I originally thought you had to train the dog to pee on the dog rocks !!

A tablespoon of tomato juice mixed into the dog's food every day will stop the urine killing the grass - a friend of mine tried this years ago with her dog and it works.

Stay away from Miracle Grow Patch Magic! It's rubbish grass. Much better to use normal seed in our experience.

We tried dog rocks, she took them out of the bowl and buried them in the border. Then we tried that greenums stuff which didnt work either. she won't eat ketchup so we are having artificial grass! We have more yellow than green on our lawn, as she does lots of little wees

We have actually been using Dog Rocks for a while now and our lawn has definitely improved, just need to find a way to stop them digging now!
