Harley has a red oozy lump on his side

Size of a 5p coin. Rough surface, bright red. Looks sore but I can't say it seems to bother him. He has lost hair on the area and the fur around it is wet and a bit bloody.

I bathed it with salty water and have made an appointment with the vet.

Any idea? I am really worried...

It could just be a 'hot spot' in other words a bit of infected skin. The thing with these is they can get much bigger very quickly so they look terrible, but they are easily treated with antibiotics and stopping the dog from licking it. I think allergies can sometimes be a cause. One of my dogs is very prone to them in wet weather so I have to be careful to dry his fur out after walks in heavy rain, and that helps.
