Do you have a dog license?

Is it illegal not to have a dog license? I'd not really thought about it (i'd heard of it but thought it was abolished years ago) so do i need to get one?

Ah ok, i was looking at a Northern Ireland website lol. So you dont need one in the uk?

The dog licence was abolished years ago so, no I don't have one for our dog. He wears the statutory ID tag with our details on it (but not his name) when out and about.

No, you don't need a licence but you do need to get your dog microchipped, if it isn't already. The dog also needs a tag with your name & address on it. My dog's tags have our surname, address, landline, mobile and say Microchipped & insured so if they are ever lost I know I can be contacted and hope they would get any necessary treatment.

Yeah she is 'chipped and has a tag on her collar. :) Just panicking about nothing as usual

mine isn't chipped but he's got an id tag.

they should bring licences back though...

The requirement for chipping is not till April 2016. But as currently they are saying it will be free and we will probably have a new government I don't think it will happen in the current format. The law currently states your name and address on a tag. It is advisable to also have a phone number.
