The wonders of Positive Training

With regard to a few threads on here I though this might be of interest and how powerful positive training is.

Look at this video of clicker training mice.

The mice are taught to retrieve and do an agility course, weave and play connect 4 (sort off) for a reward. This is only possible because the mice find the reward appealing and will then do the behaviour again. If it works for mice it will works so well with all animals.

I start my positive training workshops with training chickens. Once you see how well animals work for positive training the only thing holding you back is your imagination

mouse agility

That is brilliant. When I first discovered clicker training I remember watching something where they had taught a goldfish to swim through hoops and follow a laser pointer. I also remember a wonderful story about a pair of parrots who were being clicker trained and very quickly the male parrot gathered up the sunflower seeds and clicked and treated his mate for doing things for him. :)

It is fantastic - we can teach whales to pee in a cup, giraffes to stand on scales, ravens to go to specific locations, tortoises to come when called, rats to detect tb, hyenas to give blood, a walrus to sit up.

I can not understand why people are so reluctant to use positive training on their dogs! it works, it is powerful it is brilliant Smile
