I have had a few little threads about newdog and had advice and support from some of you doggie people at one point I was taking him back to the rescue,

I have taken on board the advice read links that were put into posts , and it all seems to be clicking into place for us, he is still a bit nutty but is full of fun but he is more relaxed and chilled out and training better and we are enjoying him and are not as tense as we were,

I think we're in a similar place. I've asked for and received lots of great advice on here, followed loads of links and bought several books. And it's working! Just like you say, really all beginning to click into place. I am a different owner from the complete paranoid nervous wreck apprehensive walker of last year. Probably the best advice I got (several times!) on here was to SLOOOOW DOWN my expectations. I found it so tempting to want to achieve everything straight away especially when I seemed to be surrounded by well behaved dogs having off lead fun and interacting happily with other dogs. Often when you talk to the owners though I've found many will say it took a long time to get their dogs to that point. Many people say 12-18 months.

I suspect Gymdog's many issues have made me a better owner, made me get to understand him better and created a stronger bond between us.

But just to keep me on my toes, the curveballs keep coming. This month's issue is a sudden aversion to the car. He's gone from happy and relaxed in the car to barking maniac, so that's the next one to tackle.

Yes this, he is nearly a year so it could also be that The daughters walk him mostly and dd2 chats to loads of dog walkers and they said ach he is just a baby he will get better and he has, a little bit of advice and support does make you feel better, I am going to start calling him jaydog now he isn't newdog anymore he hates cars and will try and chase them and rear up and we have to lift him into the car ( like a sack of spuds)
