any other advice?

She's spending the day on the 30th with my dbro's Cocker Pup who will be 16/17 weks. Vet said mating would be unlikely but not ever impossible. But shouldn't be an issue if they are supervised and I intervene with any interested sniffing.

What else should I be aware off/have forgotten?

I would say lead walks away from other dogs / doggy areas for the first 9 days or so until the bleeding subsides then on lock down.

Please don't do what lots of bitch owners do around here put your bitch on a lead and walk her in highly populated off lead walking areas... My late entire dog bogged off on occasion to the other side of the field etc and would find him trying to get amorous with a bitch in day 13 of her cycle etc....

Don't forget the importance of keeping her secure. I'd check your garden very carefully to make sure no dogs can break in. I'd also consider taking her out in the car, for at least part of your journey, as otherwise you will have a delicious scent of "eau de bitch" which will attract every dog for miles around. We found with our most recent foster girl that she was quite clingy for the first few days - definitely needed some extra love and reassurance.

She has never fussed about sleeping on her own. Apart from once when she got too cold in the conservatory and kept barking. Let her into the kitchen and she was fine.

She whined all night and then howled . At 3am I cracked and let her in my room (the one with cream carpets ... doh). This morning on her walk she's been really spooked at things she's usually fine with. Poor mite Still if its only a few days clinginess, not weeks I may as well indulge her a bit.

The garden is secured on all sides by 6 foot fences / gate, and any invaders would have to go via dh in his cyber shed.

Only down side is no car.

My unspayed Lhaso Apso and unspayed Westie used to be totally preoccupied with humping each other as they both came into season together. They didn't notice there was no way they could conceive.. Another unspayed female my parents had humped the cushion. Another female was cool until she got to 10 years old, and it was then she howled all night and got out for the first time the next day. Luckily there were no dogs in the vacinity.

Our vet spayed our pup when she was in season. He said there was a slightly elevated risk of increased bleeding but he was confident to do the surgery and she was absolutely fine. Talk to your vet surgery of find an experienced vet surgeon.
