Asking for my Cousin. Need advice on finding an allergy suitable breed.

He has some health issues so it can't need tons of exercise but a moderate amount is fine.

He's been looking a while but feels he needs some advice.

You haven't really explained about the allergy. I think you might need to give more info.

Greyhounds and whippets don't need tons of exercise but your cousin does need to be able to walk them every day.

Okay, have just asked him and this is his reply:

"asthma, so if it's bad casting i have difficulty breathing, and if it is bad for dander i have reactions with my eyes etc.."

This is what he said about exercise:

I have a shih tzu that has two walks a day and i have a front garden that he goes into in between, but i just cant have a dog that needs brisk exercise or runs.

I actually think he needs to visit a selection of breeds as one person may not react where another one does. I would be thinking Poodle, Bichon Frise, Portugese or Spanish Water dog. Actually an older dog might be better as coat type will be stable.

I have asthma and a dog allergy, I'm not sure which bit of the dog I have reactions to, but I'm fine with greyhounds, had mine since the end of january and haven't had a single reaction to him! They hardly need any exercise, minimum of 2 x 20 min walks a day, but will walk for hours if you want them to.

Whippets however, are more energetic than Greys so will require longer walks than a Grund.

I think he is looking for a bigger dog, is there any that are known to be okay with people with allergies? I am thinking of taking him to the cat and dog home, maybe we will see something there.

Cunnyfunt That's really good you haven't had a reaction, do Greyhounds not slabber a lot though?

:o slabber? Do you mean slobber/slather? No they don't, he only tends to dribble after he's had a drink, and that's only water, not dog slobber :)

I think it could be worth finding out what Greyhound rescues are near you, and seeing if they do meet and greets (basically taking out a group of Grunds and they stand there in the street/town centre etc with collecting tins), and your cousin could go along and rub his face into their fur like what I did meet some dogs and see how he is. In my vast experience allergic reactions are always better outside :)

Greyhounds are definitely big. Mine is 29" from floor to shoulder, 30" from neck to tail and weighs around 37kg :o and the soppiest tart you could ever wish to meet :)

We have too Staffies and they don't set my allergies off. But the bigger one needs a good hour a day run at least smaller one an hour is enough

Do you have to run with it or do you mean he runs about a field etc?
