I am absolutely devastated ...

My Basset was in a road traffic accident this morning, he escaped when front door was open and ran into the road, was knocked down by a car.

When i got to him he was lying unresponsive in the road, not moving at all!
We manged to get him to the emergency vets ... he has a head injury and is in a very bad way Sad

We are now at home just waiting ... i am in bits ... Sad Sad, he is 7 and is my baby, had him from a little pup and i love his sooo much

Please lovely doggy people, pray he will make it

MirandaGoshawk · 26/08/2012 16:33

Oh no. How sad. I'm very sorry. I know you feel awful and empty now, but one day you will just remember the good times. Give little Arthur a hug x

wildfig · 26/08/2012 16:43

Poor Stanley. What a beautiful basset boy. I'm so sorry you've lost him, but I'm sure he knew you were there at the end - you know how amazing their sense of smell is, even by dog standards, and he'd have been aware of your familiar smell at some level, even if he couldn't tell you. x

tittytittyhanghang · 26/08/2012 16:47

hugs xxxx we lost our dog yesterday and know exactly how your feeling. x

SrirachaGirl · 26/08/2012 16:47

everybodywalkthedinosaur · 26/08/2012 17:06

I'm so sorry, just looked at his photos and he's almost an identical twin to mine. If you live nearby you can have some basset time with mine in the future if it will help. So very sad.

AlmostAHipster · 26/08/2012 17:10

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dog was knocked down a couple of years ago and needed an operation and months of physiotherapy. We thought he wasn't going to survive so I can imagine a little of what you're going through. It's a terrible shock. Please take care of yourself xx

Happydaze · 26/08/2012 17:16

Oh my you are all so lovely and kind ...

Thank you for caring, it's starting to sink in now and am struggling a bit to understand how this has happened ... i was sneaking sausages from the fridge this morning to give him a treat cos he loves them so much!

Keep looking round for him, expecting him to appear with hi head in my lap Sad

Madondogs · 27/08/2012 13:37

So very very sorry for your loss.

Bassets are such wonderful dogs, I had one when I was 13 and she was my constant companion until she died. Big hugs x

Bossybritches22 · 27/08/2012 13:41

What lovely piccies, he was a gorgeous boy & you have some beautiful memories of him I'm sure.

So sad to lose a furry friend, they wiggle their way into our hearts don't they.

Hope Arthur is giving you loads of cuddles.

Happydaze · 27/08/2012 16:14

Thank you for thinking about Stanley and me.....

We are struggling a bit, Arthur has been by my side all day

Keep thinking I can see Stan out of the corner of my mind, the house is so quiet and his food bowl untouched, even Arthur has not eaten from it whereas usually he and Stan tend to swap bowls to make sure neither has left a tasty morsel!

Missing him Sad

I'm so sorry to read this, my thoughts are with you

theluckiest · 28/08/2012 17:19

Hi Happydaze, how are you today?
I know exactly what you mean about seeing Stan out of the corner of your mind....Mr C is still everywhere in our house. The fluffy bits on the carpet, his bowl on the kitchen worktop, the dent in the cushion on the sofa. It's so sad and heartbreaking. I miss him so much.

We took our two Cavaliers out for their last walk today. 5 mins from our house there is a nature reserve...we placed their ashes into the stream (they loved paddling in it). My heart is so heavy.

DH has been half-heartedly looking at new puppies as he says the house feels wrong without a dog. It does...but we also don't want a new dog just yet. Just our dogs back.

My thoughts are with you and Arthur. How is he? So so sorry for your sad loss.

Happydaze · 28/08/2012 19:26

Oh it's so awful ..

Arthur is looking for him, won't play in the garden whereas normally he's running around, barking at leaves, squirrels, cats! He's just sitting on the sofa arm right now looking so sad and lonely.. My heart is breaking

Will pick Stanleys ashes up on Friday, not sure what to do, want to keep him at home Sad

And the new puppy thing, my son wants a new basset hound, he wants one next week, he wants Stanley back and we can't bring him back

Thank you for thinking of us, hope you are coping, it's absolutely heartbreaking isn't it x

Thinking of you at this sad time. Stan was such a handsome boy and obviously had a lovely life with you and your family. I know that doesn't make it any easier though. X

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/08/2012 20:50

Oh Happy :(

everybodywalkthedinosaur · 28/08/2012 22:06

My old basset hound is wrapped up in her favourite jumper (it was once mine) in the closet at my mum's house. Couldn't bear the thought of her anywhere else. She's since been joined by two other beloved hounds. Keeping her at home made it easier after a while. She's going to be with me, not DH, when the time comes as she always slept on my bed cuddled up next to me.

It's so heartbreaking and I'm so sad for you. Poor Arthur as well. Honestly, if you're near Shropshire I have a long eared hound that you can squeeze if it'll help. After our old girl went, I just had to cuddle every basset I came across for some basset therapy.

So sad for all of you x
