What's the matter with my dog?

Has anyone come across this, I'm really worried. I just spoke to my husband back in Sweden. He said that he took the 2 westies out for a 2k walk yesterday. The female one kept falling over then lying there panting. He said her tongue was going a bit blue. :(

It could be a heart problem. I would get her checked out at the vet.

I had a dog with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) He had a heart murmer and then his heart enlarged. He managed well on medcation for 18 months, but one of the signs I had to look out for was 'fainting' and blue tongue or lips.

I hope she gets the all clear.

This may sound like a stupid question but the collar wasn't too tight was it? Or something going on with the lead? Someone posted on here a while back something similar and there was a problem with the lead.

Kladdkaka · 20/06/2012 16:04

The vet said it because she's lazy a lump :(

He thinks husband was walking too fast, doggy was too hot and unfit, so she just couldn't catch her breath. He thinks she'll be fine if she's allowed to go a bit slower.

oh that is a huge relief Smile

It could be Westie Lung Disease. It's got a proper name which will come up if you google it. It's what eventually got our old westie about 18 months ago, first symptoms were collapsing after exertion. Unfortunately she deteriorated quite quickly. Sad Worth mentioning?

I got home from England last night to find her looking very poorly. She was struggling to breath and her heart was pounding. We raced her to the emergency vet 2hrs aways, but sadly her heart stopped beating before we got there. My husband tried to to revive her but couldn't. :(

My husband is totally wrecked. He's looking to me for comfort, but I can't do it. He's outside now burying her, sobbing and wants me to be with him. I buried my Dad on Thursday, I just can't face anymore grief. :(
