Puppy farmers do work that way too. some market themselves as 'exclusive' and run waiting lists. of course, you will never wait that long.... there will be a bitch in season before long.

some back yard breeders do too.

as the very nature of an ethical breeder is to breed very rarely...the number of dogs from puppy farms, back yard breeders et al is always going to vastly outnumber those.

Is it really judgey to point out the real ethical issues with dog breeding? Breeding is a fairly gritty business for the bitch and not one i would be blase over.

Edgar - still a bit Confused as to why my original post would come across as
"'i am a future owner of a very likely puppy farmed/ back yard breeder dog who really doesn't know what breeding entails' . I don't get it. There was no reference to me even buying a puppy for at least 4-5 months given that the Mother dog has only just come into season. Confused

behindlock I do understand that you must be tired and saddened when hearing all the tales of woe from owners throwing in the towel when teh going gets toughtetc. but no idea why there is a need to tar everyone with the same brush Confused. Also my OP did not allude to that secenario as far as I can see.

I did not tar everyone with the same brush. Which is why I said I was pleased for you, you appear to have done your research and are going into this as prepared as possible.
I made my comment in return to the comment about DogHouse mentality. In my experience the dog house only gets heated when they are faced with an irresponsible owner who just does not get it / does not see anything wrong with their behaviour.
No tarring as far as I can see, plenty of genuine support when someone genuinly needs it and is willing to take on board suggestions / work through possible solutions.

Bowing out now, not interested in a Dog house debate. Enjoy your pup when he / she arrives Smile

Aww Nuggets we had a golden retriever when I was growing up. They are such beautiful dogs - inside and out! I always make a fuss of any I see out walking and get a bit choked up thinking of our lovely one (only when my little cavi is distracted by his ball so he doesn't get jealous :) ). You must be so excited!

NuggetsForTeaAgain · 11/06/2012 17:47

we are! And we still have three weeks waiting once she is mated, so at least another 4 weeks to wait! It's more stressful that waiting to conceive! I'm the wame panda, ever time i see one I melt Smile
