Am I the only one intimidated by vets' receptionists?

Despite knowing that the extra large dogs' Advocate runs all over the place, I still felt bullied into buying it for my Golden Retriever, who weighs 28 kgs and is by no stretch of the imagination an extra large dog. (They wouldn't let me get the one for large dogs as she weighs over 25kgs) I then had the talk about all the other stuff I need and was made to feel inadequate. I thought that Advocate did it all.
I love my dog, but don't want to be patronised/ given a guilt trip every time I go into the vets. Plus, is there a better solution than Advocate, which I find unpleasantly greasy?

They shouldnt make you feel bullied but are giving you the correct advice. Would be a waste of your money to buy a smaller size and find it ineffective. 25kgs and over get the larger one.
The trick with the large size advocate is to split it so you don't put it all on the back of the neck, put some on the base of the tail and some between shoulder blades - the leaflet that comes with the pack shows you how to apply it.
It's a shame they weren't nicer about it. I use advocate on mine as it's an effective safe product that protects against a range of mites as well as fleas and roundworm and prevents lungworm which is important with my snail eating pup!!!
But yes I wish it wasn't so oily and greasy.
