Picked up beautiful 8w golden retriever boy yesterday and Dd (18m) has had a constant runny nose and eyes since. It settles with piriton. She had been around plenty of dogs before, even retrievers as my Aunty guide dog puppy walks, she's never come up in such a reaction before? Does anyone think it's a reaction to the puppy? How could I manage it if it is? 3yo ds is completely besotted with him and I've been desperate for a dog for years.

Just wait a bit and see what happens.

There are massively high pollen levels around at the moment too so it could be caused by that. If your DD is OK with other dogs, it would be a surprise if she's not OK with yours.

I would also try bathing the puppy in a few days time - I'd let him settle in a bit before I did it, he is coping with a lot of change at the moment. It could be dust/ pollen or even a washing powder residue in his coat from the breeder's house.

If you can manage your DD with piriton for a few days, then I would and maybe by the middle of the week bath the puppy and see if it settles down.

boobesck - contact breede and advise her just in case you need to rehome back to her. where is your breeder located?

About 1.5 hours away, so a fair distance. I did actually bath puppy last night, they had a paddling pool to play in at the breeders so loved the bath! Dd was a little better this afternoon and survived the whole day on just her morning dose of piriton so maybe it was something from the breeders, fingers crossed. He's an amazing little fella, can't bare the thought of having to let him go! thanks for the advice.

Brilliant.

Fingers crossed it continues that way.

He must have LOVED his bath - what a lucky puppy!

I was much the same when we got our new puppy - sneezing, itchy eyes, all the classic allergy stuff.

This lasted on and off for quite a while but easily sorted with Piriton. Now I am fine with him, like nothing ever happened.

Hopefully your DD will be the same - one day you will wake up and realise she hasn't sneezed for ages!
