We're getting our lovely mixed breed dog (2nd generation lab/poodle mix) in two weeks.... Which insurance is best? Do you think we need life cover? Any advice welcomed!

Hi yes you defitnately want a whole of life cover, that way if your dog was o develop any ongoing condition the insurance would continue to pay each year up to the allowance and once you have paid your excess.

Dont get a 12 month exclusion policy or one with a set amount of cover per condition for life.

Really get the best you can afford, if it seems to good to be true it probably is. A lot of the pet specific companies are very good, but plenty of others do a good lifetime cover option to. Also many of the policies are underwritten by the same few underwriters so you may get a better price if you go directly to them. Just be warned though some places are now counting labxpoodles labradoodles as a breed, though I agree they are a crossbreed albeit a designer one!!

We have a lab/poodle cross too, and insure him with Axa (through Sainsburys) - it's a good policy but the excess is high (£100). He's designated as a cross-breed with that policy.

Our insurance quote went up by nearly 70% with Sainsburys this year, despite no claim and my dog is only 6. They have been fab in the past but I'm not prepared to pay that much of an increase.
I've gone with perfect pets this year who are offering life cover £7500 a year for just over £20 a month
