Dane bitch acting like a boy?

We have 2 Great Danes, one boy and one girl both about a year (boy slightly older).

Neither have been 'done' yet although the girl will be soon, she has had one season and is not due another one any time soon.

Recently the girl dane has been, um....'mounting' the boy, as if she was the boy and he was the girl. She doesn't do anything once she gets there, she just sort of gets 'into position' then looks around and gets down!

The boy doesn't seem bothered at all but I just thought it was a little bit....weird?

Does any one know why she might be doing this? Is it a hormone thing?

I looks so funny to watch!

We prefer to call them the gang rather than pack. We are all in it together

The gang includes us under the hairs and ticks somewhere

I don't subscribe to any particular theory, I just work on observation and positive training methods. What I have observed is that my two dogs have a hierarchy. Dog1 is in charge, dog2 is happy with that. Dog2 leaps all over dog1 in play, but will stop the second he gets a canine f* off message. If he is being a really big pain, dog1 will tip him over and pin him down. Then they both get up and go merrily on their way. I don't give a monkeys what the latest dog expert says about that, I just let them get on with it.

The mounting thing worries me not a jot, but keeping entire youngsters of the opposite sex together is a problem. Neuter/spay or keep apart.

Extremepie it's great that your two dogs get on so well.

Theo, you obviously care a lot for your animals. I wouldn't want to look after a monkey, I am impressed!!

We have fostered a few monkeys. the pet shop sell them here. We try so hard to find them proper sanctuary's for the record none of the UK people get back to us. Monkeys really smell. Our last was a baby Baboon who died within a few days

That's really sad.
