Two weeks ago I applied for a third dog from a rescue centre. I already have a curly coated retriever and a very loopy lurcher, we applied for a chi and passed both the phone interview and the home check and we are due to go and meet her on Saturday. We are all so excited.

Little dogs are a whole new thing for me, but every time I think about her it makes me smile!

Just wanted to share my excitement with everybody and ask for any tips to do with chi's please.

Good luck! We are getting our second soon, so I am also excited and a bit nervous at the same time.

Its a strange feeling isn't is MG. The trouble i have found is that dogs are addictive, you can't just have 1.

She will be my second rescue as the lurcher was a rescue and we got him sept 2009, and we had the other one from a puppy in 2007. All my dog owning life i have never had a little dog, the smallest being was a rescue staff back in the late 1990's, so this is a whole new learning curve for me!

This will be our second rescue too, though the dog I had when growing up (died when I was mid-twenties) was also a rescue. I've never had a small dog though - the one I grew up with was a collie x, our existing one is a whippet and our new one is a small (slightly bigger than whippet sized) lurcher.

How exciting!! Bet you can't wait to go and meet her. And thank you for rescuing, it's great that the dog will have a home with you :)

morethanyoubargainfor · 09/04/2012 22:12

I really can't Redwing, i have looked at her forum page sooo many times!

I hope she will have a great home with us, i will try my hardest to make it that way.

This week is going to go so slowly, i can feel it already. Grin.

can you link us to her. i'd love to see her Smile

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 10/04/2012 20:41

ooh cant wait to see her. How lucky for her to be coming home with you, to snuggle with your other dogs.

I always think there is room for a small one. Wink

"The trouble i have found is that dogs are addictive, you can't just have 1."

Yes definitely. DP and I had lots of conversations about how we couldn't possibly have another dog, it wouldn't be sensible, we didn't have space, we didn't want the extra expense or inconvenience etc. Then we saw OldDog's story on the rescue website and, well, he's snoring happily on my feet right now :).

I've never had little dogs either, but as far as I can tell the key thing is to remember they're dogs - it's the people who treat them like dolls or babies who tend to create problems for themselves!

morethanyoubargainfor · 10/04/2012 23:08

I will try to link to her tomorrow as not sure I could do it on the iPad!

I will also remember that she is a dog, although I am currently getting much enjoyment out of discovering the things that are available for little dogs!!! It is a whole other world. I would never purchase nothing apart from the essentials, which of course covers teeny tiny tennis balls and a miniature kong for her, a new tiny bowl and the teeny tiny chews ds and I stumbled across today Grin.

It's nearly Saturday!!!!!!!!!!

I meant anything not nothing! Sorry about that.

So exciting and good for you Smile. I'm glad I'm not the only one who dreams about dogs. We have a little Westie and a Scottie pup on the way (from a conscientious breeder) but I'd love our third (and final...DH draws the line at a canine trifecta) dog to be a large-breed rescue. Let us know how it goes!
