All I want to know is when do you take the 3 week period of either not walking/careful double personed walks from ?

We did not get her done in time so we have to go through another season with her, first spotted the bleeding on sat morning,so when please as I get different answers from dog owners/vets/rescue....

Any advice received with thanks

The bleeding can last from 3 days to 14 days most commonly it lasts 7 to 10days. After the bleeding has stopped this is the most dangerous time as this is when they are receptive to the dog and this can last for up to 3 weeks. This is what is in the veterinary text books, however, dogs don't read text books hence the huge amount of variation.
My advice to novice dog owners is three weeks from when the red (fresh) blood stops.

Ovulation is usually indicated by the end of the red bleeding, and as Liz says, that can happen at any time from day 3 to day 21/22 of the season. Ovulation is when your dog will turn into a whirling pole dancer at the merest hint of a bloke.

It's likely to be about 30 days in total.
