Dog won't go in kennel

We have recently taken on my mums 8 year old springer as my mum is too poorly to keep him. He's never had a kennel before but we need to be able to put him out during the day while at work ( we have a dog walker on ocassions when he and our other dog will be left for more than a few hours).

He doesn't like the kennel and will just lie outside. Dh has built a shelter now so that he doesn't get wet if it rains but I'm worried about him being cold - not now but in the winter. Any tips to get him to stay in it?

Does you original dog use the kennel? Are they meant to share it? If he's never had one before he's probably completely bemused by it, and he may feel it's the other dog's territory and not to be shared.

They have a kennel each. He will nip in it and grab treats (I've spent a bit of time trying to bribe him to go in).

I wouldn't worry tbh, he'll go in it when he feels the weather is cold enough/wet enough. If you want to make it extra attractive put an off-cut of carpet in there (not blanket.... blanket will be dragged round the garden and shredded for amusement Grin)

He probably just loves it outside. Lying in the grass and sniffing all the enticing smells. Don't worry, if he is really cold or wet, he will use it.
