Why does my dog crap in the most awkward places?

I'm keen to know (if anyone can think like my dog!) why my lovely tibetan terrier finds the tallest clumps of grass on which to defecate. We take our walks in a massive field with literally thousands of easier spots which wouldn't mean me getting dog crap all over my hands as I scavenge around TRYING to locate his offerings and pick them up.

Influencing his location choice would be good too, if anyone has any tips?

It would seem that this is destined to remain a mystery...

Maybe I'll start taking a pair of marigolds on walks Sad Blush

dont you use poo bags to pick up poo?

I think he does it just to piss you off. Grin

Jax I think you may be right!
The poo bags work to an extent but they don't stand up to excessive foliage rummaging.

If the dog is doing it in scrub land then maybe not pick it up. If pooing in someones garden flowers then absolutely.

My dogs have been trained to poo in certain areas of the garden if needed - and out on walks will only go in scrub. Never on a path or pavement.

Wish I knew the answer - my dog is the same. He also likes to do a handstand to poo up walls or on top of tree stumps sometimes. His usual poo method is to keep moving while pooing, so I end up bent over with a bag on my hand collecting up a trail of poo. And he always does a bit more once I've tied up the bag. Angry

Thanks Jax. He only goes in the garden if he's busting, but always finds a nice big clump of grass or a plant on walks.

My dog likes his privacy. If he's mid poo, and someone disturbs him, he does the 'poo scuttle' which results in leaving a six foot trail of currants while he crabs along looking embarassed.

HotBurrito1 · 03/03/2012 22:15

Chickens that must be annoying. Although I feel sorry for him, he sounds like a sensitive soul who'd rather not poo scuttle leaving poo trails.

I feel your pain. Our lab likes to back himself under bushes to poo. He spends ages trying to find the perfect place...... Sigh!
