Home boarding reminds me of childminder search!

Will our dog will be ok in a friendly home even though it's not like ours? Have been looking for experienced person to have hyper dog in own home while we are abroad - first time on a plane for DC's! Found one but it was so not like here, the house or area. Will it better for her there than in kennel prison? She has never been in kennel and we think that aged 5 this will stress her and she will really miss human company. Please reassure!

What sort of not like yours?

If it's untidier/ shabbier furniture/ posher furniture/ dreadful taste in wallpaper then your dog isn't going to care about that a jot and if they seem kind and caring and capable then I'd definitely go for it.

If the environment is, say, very noisy compared to your place, with lots of screaming and 200 decibel TV on 24 hours a day, or very quiet and everyone has taken a vow of silence and communicates in only nods, then these things might affect your dog more and then I'd think some more about it. But even then, if they are kind and capable then I think I might still go for it over kennels.

Oh it's a nightmare - it took us ages but we have now found a lovely bloke who has our dog when we're away.

Is your dog very chilled or highly strung - if chilled I doubt the different environment would be too much

Thanks for the messages. I just didn't warm to the people, it was in a bit of a rough area, they smoke. Reminded me of the place we rehomed her from. Ddog is pretty cool though and all strokes count! Think we are going to have to go with it as are running out of options but I hate having the qualms!

Horrid qualms, I'm with you on this one - DogMouse is going for a day-time stay at our local 'doggy hotel' tomorrow, and I feel as if dd2 is starting nursery again!

We know dogs that have been, and loved it; we know its in a couple's own home, up to 5 dogs at a time, and they get walked twice a day; we know its only up the road and its only a trial. And I STILL feel as though my baby is starting school

FWIW, my last dog used to stay with his dog walker when I went away - very different to home environment, lots of cats, young couple who smoked (all sorts of things, I suspect) and not much garden. He absolutely loved it, and was fine - he got his basic needs met, and lots of affection and company.

He did come back smelling smokily dodgy, though

Me too. The rough neighbourhood wouldn't bother me, and you can bath her on her return home to get rid of the smoke.

But not warming to the actual people would worry me. I'd want to send Ddog to people I genuinely thought were nice and would be kind.

Where are you, BTW? Worth posting to see if anyone on here will do it? Someone you are happier with might be glad of the cash.

Thanks for the messages. Am still looking, meeting another home boarder next week. Feel I am being a bit precious but gut instincts have always been right in the past.
We are in Stockport so if there is anyone in Greater Manchester who is confident with dogs (due to Ddogs terrier temperament oudoors!) and has space at Easter that would be fab, happy to pay the going rate - do I just post and ask? Not sure of MN rules!
