Which mat and other muddy paw prevention ideas?

We are fortunate in that most of our rooms downstairs have wooden floors however I'm getting fed up with the muddy footprints. I bought a mat, which our dog thought was delicious Grin. It was the sort that you could pull into threads. Is there a good mat that will get rid of mud from paws? Or any other ideas?

I've trained Jasper to sit on the mat when he comes in and we wipe his paws with a towel (someone else on here gave me the idea, think it was Elibean). It does massively reduce the big lumps of mud tracked through the house, but doesn't completely eliminate them. My friend took to using wet wipes on her dog's paws, but they ended up irritating his pads so she stopped. I have seriously thought about wellies.

We don't have our puppy yet, but I have two very dirty boys Grin and would recommend turtle mats. They are expensive but definitely worth it.

Bought equivalent of Turtle Mats at Dunelm Mill £9.99 each do the job and go in the washing machine.

Wow I'm impressed with training your dog to sit on the mat, we do some daft dance trying to get him to stay on it (well it's an old towel at the moment). There is a dunelm Mill nearish, so will go and have a look.

Not that impressive, really Grin He just got used to having his collar grabbed as he came in and decided it was easier just to sit (plus I fed him treats Wink)
