Names, willow, bramble, inca, BANG (great name for a gundog Wink) Nell, Holly, Elsa, Lizzy, madge. i could go on, your spoilt for choice with girls.

OrmIrian · 28/11/2011 11:43

I always likes Selkie for black labs - their heads look just like seals.

2T2T · 28/11/2011 11:48

thanks all - Actually, shelbie is quite nice. Don't think my dd would approve of holly, that;s her name!

I know a black lab called Inca. She's adorable (and very very laid back for a lab!).

I've been lurking on your other thread - what brilliant news.

As additions to your shopping list, you'll need kitchen roll, bio washing liquid, rubber gloves, many, many poo bags and germ killer. Puppies wee and poo frequently - and even if it's in the garden you'll be poo picking! Ours all have a favourite soft toy too - and as pups have loved little soft toys they can squeak - pets at home do a little sausage dog thing which has been well loved by our 2 most recent puppies.

We have 4 black labs and love, love, love every inch of them.

My most repeated bit of advice is manage the resting time of your pup carefully. A bit like children, the more wound up and tired they get, the worse they behave. An over stimulated puppy is no fun for anyone.

They really, really only need 5 ish minutes of exercise (ie on a lead or out walking) per month of life until they're about a year old. Lots of lovely basics training - 5 minutes a day of sit, stay, walk to heel and come until it's rock solid.

Despite our youngest being only 7 months old, I am very Envy.

I've met a lovely Pru recently, and an Eliza and a gorgeous Evie. All labradors and all heavenly Grin.

loving all this advice - and the names! Been to get loads of doggy toys including couple of kongs which I hear are thoroughly recommended!
Daisy - our first golden lab was called Prudence!

I love the name Cassie, Boo and shelbie so far. Also loving Betty and Skye - oh such a lot to think about!

Betty boo! How about that Smile

ditavonteesed · 28/11/2011 14:45

love it. although it should be betty boop surely. Grin

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 28/11/2011 14:53

Betty Boo can have her own theme tune. All dogs need a theme tune. Jasper's is 'His name is Jasper, He is a buttmunch' sung to the melody of 'Copacobana'

2T2T · 28/11/2011 15:01

chickens - i guessed the tune even before you wrote it! That's not odd either Hmm
so advice re: crating, and introducing to miserable old git cat and young rescue cat..........any takers?

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 28/11/2011 15:11

my dogs have theme tunes, cherry is shes a cherry bomb, eric is true blood theme tune as he is named after eric on true blood.
crate, make it as nice as possible, ticking clock at the side, lots of snuggly toys (swap for chewy as gets older), I always fed puppies in crate so they think crate is nice, never shut in as punishment.
cats, slowly and on the cats terms, I had my dogs on lead when introducing cats, make sure cats have somewhere to escape to, my cats have upstairs, dogs arent allowed upstairs, the cats are fed upstairs and the litter tray is in the bathroom. If cat runs try to distract puppy as there is nothing more enticing than a running cat.
We also bought a radio to put on at night so it isnt too quite as eric didnt like being away from us at first.
Make sure you clean up any accidents with biological cleaner or they will keep going there.

louby86 · 28/11/2011 15:29

Same as ditavonteesed for the crate. I'm at home a lot of the time too so I put our puppy in their for a couple of minutes at a time and shut the door and went in another room, gradually building it up to stop them from getting separation anxiety when you leave them

NorkyPies · 28/11/2011 15:31

Bruna, as she's black.

GrimmaTheNome · 28/11/2011 15:34

Only call her Betty if, when calling her, you can refrain from Frank Spencer impersonations Grin

NorkyPies · 28/11/2011 15:41

Betty Boop is nice, though

Scuttlebutter · 28/11/2011 16:57

Oooooh, Congratulations!! This is so exciting. You do realise we will all be wanting pics of lovely cute puppy gorgeousness!

Elibean · 28/11/2011 16:59

Smile at the theme tunes. Mouse gets 'a brown earred dog-mouse if one drops by' from Into White by Cat Stevens. Which shows my age Blush

2T, I third the crate advice - it really helps Mouse relax and calm down when manic (and in need of rest), and it really helps the kids relax and calm down too. When I put Mouse in, that is, not kids (tempting though) Wink

2T2T · 28/11/2011 18:43

will be posting pics when she arrives Grin
