We picked him up today.

He's done really well. No accidents in the house (yet), two long wees in the garden and a good park walk that included a poo (runny) and a successful encounter with two off the lead terriers, a very friendly staffy and an elderly collie.

He's panting a lot in the house. Is this because he's stressed?

We did order a coat at the very start of the month from the RGT but it's still not come! Seemed like a good basic all round option. I called and got a REALLY shirty woman on the phone who grumpily explained that they'd had a run on the coats well duh it is autumn and they were waiting for the others to be embroidered. She enjoyed reminding me that it did say allow 28 days for delivery. I've never had to wait 28 days for delivery of anything I've ordered online or by phone or catalogue. If it's not come on the 28th day I'm getting my money back!

Any suggestions for other greyhound goodies most welcome. MiL is getting very excited about his Xmas outfit Blush !!!!!!

AK Creations do jammies, snoods, coats and funky collars. I googled 'greyhound accessories' and found a site called Bonnie something, and you can get personalised christmas kneckerchiefs, biscuits and collars etc. There's a link to the Bonnie one on my thread 'DP has agreed to a greyhound', it's not far from the bottom I don't think, and it's linked as 'look what I just found!' think it's on page 2 underneath two huge posts off scuttlebutter.

Blimey, sorry for the essay!

I've bought fleece oats from here and they're great

Oh god, have just seen the Xmas reindeer fleece!

A couple of things. Yes, black ones are harder to rehome. This applies to all dogs, not just greys, and even applies to cats too. Many people don't like black dogs, find them threatening, and there is also a great deal of superstition around them which seems to leave lingering doubts with people. Sad We have two black ones who we love to bits, and I think no other colour shines so beautifully when their coats are in good nick. They gleam in the sun.

Viva, so sorry to hear you have been ill. As well as the Cinnamon Trust (excellent idea) why not contact the rescue you adopted through and see if any of their volunteers lives near you and would be willing to do a bit of extra walking or take yours out with theirs for a mini-playdate? Grunds love meeting up with other pointies and most greyhound owners I know seem to be happy to help out other pointy owners - seems we feel we are part of a special "club" if you know what I mean. If this was one of our adopters I would be mortified if I thought they couldn't contact the charity for help and a bit of support.

Coats - haven't bought from RGT so am disappointed to hear this. You would indeed think that the idea of selling more coats as winter approaches wouldn't come as a surprise. AK Creations are great, we've bought housecoats from them for ours. We got our outdoor coats from here - although it's in the USA, we found the service to be excellent, and it's nice to know it's supporting a rescue. GRWE also have an online shop which sells coats and accessories.

If we are talking shopping though, we need to mention - whisper - collar porn. Blush Grin

Try Around the hounds or 2 Hounds for some luscious collar browsing. Apart from looking wonderful, we've bought collars and leads from both these companies, and I can say they are top quality and very comfortable for the dogs. The 2 Hounds velvet leashes are amazing, they are incredibly strong, machine washable and look wonderful day in day out.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/11/2011 01:13

I have black rescue animals of every type, dog, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs. The rescues must love me!

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 20/11/2011 05:25

Sad to hear how nobody wants the black ones :( I did until we met robbie, I just think they look so sleek and handsome! Maybe when :o if we decide to get a friend for him we'll get a black one!

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 20/11/2011 08:41

scuttle I just looked at that Around the hounds link, and swarovski collars Shock Really? Why on earth would anyone buy collars like that?

Scuttlebutter · 20/11/2011 09:38

Um, you need to ask?

Wait till your grund arrives. Seriously, remember when people were talking about medieval royal portraits?

Also, some (ahem) owners accumulate a "collection" of collars - you might not wear Swarovski every day (whistles, and looks innocently at the ceiling) but you might get a lovely smart collar and lead for Christmas or for special occasions... in the same way lots of people get Christmas PJs for DC, or a special outfit for themselves.... Actually, most greyhound owners are completely besotted, and if anything like us, pointy dog will be perfectly turned out in range of lovely coats, collars and leads and owners will be embarrassingly scruffy.... Blush Grin

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 20/11/2011 09:52

Scuttle I just have to ask, do your dogs have their own full size triple wardrobes for all these posh coats, collars and leads? :o and do you have swarovski collars? Shock

Scuttlebutter · 20/11/2011 14:10

LOVE the triple wardrobe idea!! Grin No. Housecoats upstairs in bedrooms, leads on hooks behind utility room doors, coats in winter are in assorted locations - usually hung over back of dining chairs to dry/air, or in the cupboard under the stairs.

No, ours don't have Swarovski collars, but I know people who do, and very fine they are too, especially as I said for high days and holidays. Someone we know through the charity had their grunds at their CP ceremony, and of course the greys had beautiful collars for that, with bucketloads of crystals! Ours do have a beautiful selection though, and usually wear a special one for the festive season. Blush I'll see if I can find some pics.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 20/11/2011 14:55

I suppose smart collars etc are better than xmas pjs or a nice outfit for yourself. At least the dogs won't outgrow them! There's a few collars I rather like the look of on GRWE website. There's also one or two on AK Creations. I can't wait till we find out if we can have one or not! My bank account is going to be knackered!

miacis · 20/11/2011 18:31

Love the idea of collar porn - so true - and of course black does go with everything dwarlink Wink

reasonstobecheerful · 21/11/2011 10:18

How's her stomach at the moment? I always found Burgess Supadog Sensitive to be a really good food when it comes to firming up the poos. I've had several greyhounds and they can be prone to runny tummies but always did well on that particular food. And yes they did have a collar collection Grin

MissBetsyTrotwood · 21/11/2011 17:57

Hi there! His tum has settled down a little more now. Although no thanks to DH's traditional birthday fry up and a visit from the Mil who I caught giving him the leftovers. And then she was caught by DH giving him the scrambled egg pan to 'clear up'! I had explained to her how we were going slowly with the protein now but I just think she wanted to make friends... And she definitely succeeded!

He's on dry kibble with a little oily fish a couple of times a week. The straight and narrow!

DH has vetoed anything glittery collar wise. But he forgot to mention the lead Wink.
