Right, this will drag, please be patient!!

My SIL bought a puppy from, what I suspect, is a puppy farm. Or at least a very good front for one. She saw all pups with mum but the pup they brought home was bigger and less curly than the rest. Hes supposed to be a labradoodle. He looks like no other lab/poodle cross I've ever seen. I'm convinced there's a bit of spaniel in there. Anyway, that's sort of by the by.

After 2 WEEKS my SIL decided pup was 'aggressive' toward her 3 DDs, and 'really hard work'. She works full time. Crated for 6 hours a day. and was planning on dumping him at RSPCA. Of course labeled as 'aggressive'. Or selling him on. Great plan. I couldnt let him go to dog knows where- we therefore ended with a pup living in my house.

I bloody love this dog to bits. He's a total gem to train, follows me around, and is not the least bit mouthy at ALL. Walks nicely for me, and so on. That may have something to do with fact my DNs were allowed to prod and poke, an SIL buys into all that pack leader shit. My DCS are older, a bit more sensible and I've more time to devote to training/walks.

Prior to all this, I was hoping to addopt a recuse grey/whippet/lurcher. They're more my 'breed' after having a housefull as a kid.

Soppy cow that I am, I feel hideously guilty that for a few years at least, I know won't be in a positIon to do so. I keep thinking that there's lots of dogs out there needing homes and I could have given one. So... Do you know of any rescues in my area (east Yorkshire) that I could give my time to, instead? I'm happy to walk/clean out and all that, and I'm hoping in the future I'd possibly be considered to foster, too???

Thanks very much, apologies for rambling!!

bumpybecky · 08/11/2011 19:14

wonders how far away ITP is
considered dognapping the amazingly cute notadoodle
realises there's no way we could cope with a puppy right now
goes away with tail between legs :( Wink

misdee · 08/11/2011 19:17

if i could cope with another doodle or notadoodle i'd be nabbing him as well lol.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/11/2011 19:54

maybe we should start calling them Noodles Grin

Inthepotty · 08/11/2011 20:04

Ahh he does have that puppy smell about him! DH very jealous of the cuddles/chicken wing feeding/general loving I'm giving pup, I did over hear him this morning from the bathroom saying "who's a handsome fella, you are a lovely little boy so you are little doggy"

He's the soppy sort at heart really, under the 6 4" big bulky builder frame!

sniff his feet potty they smell like popcorn. I love that smell, and puppy breath.

need to get out more... without dogs.

Inthepotty · 08/11/2011 21:07

Jax my dad came around especially to sniff his little puppy paws..

Just realised my entire family now sounds mental.

Oh how lovely :) definitely some spaniel in there I think, not just the ears but the shape of his face.

My dog is 7 years old and his feet still smell like popcorn, didn't know this was supposed to be a puppy thing. Also, I thought I was the only weird person to sniff my dog's feet Blush.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 09/11/2011 07:11

I had never felt the need to sniff my puppies (dogs) feet until my friend said about popcorn feet... I sniff her feet when we have a cuddle. She is 1 and still has popcorn feet.

potty I think most dog people have to be a teensy bit mental - after all who else walks their animals come rain/snow/howling gale when the rest of the world are snuggled up in the warm and dry? Grin

Elibean · 09/11/2011 09:34

I have always sniffed my dog's feet! Ah, one is never alone, no matter how weird Grin

I missed that smell when he died, and am delighted to find our new pup has similar smelling paws (more than I can say for the rest of him!).

MollyTheMole · 09/11/2011 10:08

I love sniffing my evildogs ears, and her snout, and her feet.....she smells all gerbally

2T2T · 09/11/2011 10:28

he is gorgeous!!! Looks quite spanielish to me - beautiful whatever though

clam · 09/11/2011 21:31

Agree about the spaniel bit. Looks a bit like a working cocker.
So do you know whether the rest is poodle? Or a mix of other bits and bobs? If it's just spaniel and poodle, that would make a cockapoo, but he's not like any cockapoo I've seen.
How much did your SIL pay for him, out of interest?
