Bitches in season and neutered dogs.

So my house no longer looks like a murder scene. Girly grey has stopped bleeding (about bloody time!) but poor Devil Dog doesn't know what to do with himself!

He's constantly following her around, trying to hump her, getting into bed with her, getting into the whippet's bed with her - which is a little ridiculous tbh, three of them, one large greyhound, one small fox terrier x and a teeny Whippet all crammed into one whippet-sized crate

He is without a doubt 100% neutered, so she is no danger of being impregnated by him and doesn't seem in the slightest bit bothered by it, in fact she is encouraging him (the little hussy ). But is it fair on him? He is constantly agitated.

He can eat, but he can't settle or lay down unless he laid on top of her. Would it be fairer to send her back to the rescue for a few weeks? I absolutely don't want to do this, but there is no-where else I could send the Devil one, everyone is scared of him. He is humping her head as I type

Oh dear poor little thing. Is it a one-off? I mean, is the bitch going to be neutered or will she have more seasons?

I suppose it is something of a source of distress for him, but then it would likely be more distressing for her (or him) to be sent away from home.

If she's not bothered or agitated by him, I would just leave them to it.

Is girly grey yours or a stop-gaper? I don't really frequent the dog house anymore, just odd threads that pop up in active convos, so I am very out of touch.

Oh, yes she'll be speyed in about three months time. She is used to being passed about a bit within the foster network, but it does cause her some distress which is why I don't want to do it.

She's a foster WTWTW, but has been here a few months now, with no signs of any suitable homes. She won't settle without other dogs and she is black so she has a fight on her hands for a forver home, bless her. But she is wonderful dog, she is cat friendly and safe with children, which will work in her favour.

I guess the fact that he is still eating ok is an indication that the lovesickness is not so distressing that you should worry too much.

She sounds lovely btw. Wish I could have her. (Though I have a devil dog too who is enough to be going on with)

Can you keep them seperate until she's finished her season?

I could but my house is not very big. I do have the living room and dining room which are seperate, but it would mean one of them being on their own (probably the Devil Dog, he's the least sociable) during the day when there is only me here. Obviously I call from room to room, but they're all used to following me from room to room all day.

I can seperate them on an evening and have the two hounds in the front room with DH and I can have some peace and free range over the PC in the dining room

They sleep in seperate rooms on a night, so she is getting rest and peace on a night.

I would try to keep them separated for as much time as you can.

No, that is Whippy. The other one is Devil Dog and the tiny one right up on the hill is my sister's.

He's given up for now and is in usual spot by my feet.

I'd try stopping them as much as possible. Our two did this the first season and once Poppy had got past the "I'm wiggling my bottom at you, yes, go ahead please," hussy phase, she then decided to attack Budgen whenever he came near, which was worse. They went through a horrible fighting phase and we had to keep a very strict eye on them. He would try for a bit of action, she would get pissed off and attack.

Weirdly, her second season they pretty much ignored each other.

I have absolutely no idea Exit. Black dogs take longer to rehome than any other colour. I guess people just don't think they're pretty enough or maybe it's because they don't tend to photograph as well as lighter coloured dogs. It's very odd, but it happens in most rescues.

Mind you, I have heard tales of people returning dogs because they didn't match their soft funishings so I suppose anything is possible. Your link doesn't take me anywhere so I cannot comment on her sweetness, but I am sure she is gorgeous.....

sadly it is true. black dogs and darker dogs in general are hard to rehome as they are perceived as 'scary' and not cute like ickle fluffy wuffy shitzuh type dogs.

also - if you have a think about it, dogs that are 'protection dogs' are usually black as predominant colour, GSDs, rottie, doberman. I think it is the face colour iirc.

They seem to be calming down now. At least he is being nice to the other dogs, I suppose I should be gratefull for that. They all snuggled on the sofa last night. He is normally the one under the table in the corner scowling and growling everytime anything remotely alive so much as twitches . Are you sure it's cute, white dogs that are meant to be the nicest Coffee?

Luckily for my 2 dark destroyers dark sables I prefer darker dogs.
