Is our dog having female orgasms, or is she wetting herself?

Two-year old, spayed, labrador bitch. Sometimes she seems to wet herself (two recent examples - on our bed last week, and on the couch on monday evening) - however there is no smell of urine left behind, and the fluid seems to be clear, not straw-coloured/yellow.

Sometimes when this happens she has been licking herself a lot, and once or twice I have stopped her from excessively licking herself, and there's been a little bit of a wet patch.

I am very perplexed by this. It's not a daily occurrence, and otherwise she is completely housetrained - she can go up to 12 hours overnight (we offer her a last wee before we go to bed, but she doesn't always want one), and she hasn't soiled her cage since she was a puppy.

She doesn't seem to wee excessively in between these incidents either.

Does anyone know what might be going on here, or should I go to the vet and ask?

It could be a UTI, she could well be licking excessively licking as she might be sore give your vet a call and see what they say. The wetness sounds like its slather from licking herself tbh, ive never heard of a bitch licking themselves to orgasm either my last lab was a bitch and would at times "clean" herself so much that she would get sore.

I've never had a bitch my last Lab boy used to masturbate, it was utterly revolting.

I did think it could just be a lot of saliva from the licking, but last night there was a puddle of clear liquid on the floor by the sofa - not just a few drops, but an actual puddle. And when she was on the bed, she soaked right through the duvet - but there was no odour either then, or in the morning before it went in the wash.

She has had a UTI before, and was doing lots of little wees, and was obviously in some discomfort, but that's not been the case any of the times this has happened - hence my puzzlement.

Take her to see a vet. Please.

Is she meant to be on the bed and couch? I only ask because one of mine came with some excessive submission behaviours and if she thought she'd been caught somewhere she wasn't meant to be, she'd wet herself.

Yes, she is allowed on the sofa/bed - as long as she is there with a person, and whilst she is submissive (definitely not an alpha dog) she hasn't ever wee'd herself when caught out doing something wrong (like eating dh's sandals, nicking steak or salmon or mince pies, or trying to chew up my ornaments).

Tchootnika - your post sounds as if you think there's something seriously wrong - can you tell me what it is, please?

SNHNG - sorry if I sounded panicky. I've heard some nasty stories about pyometra and other infections recently and I think they started off with similar symptoms. Apologies if you've had this checked out already or I'm really off the mark here, though.

And having just read your post again and seen that she's spayed, I see that that would be impossible anyway. So apologies again. Will read more carefully in future.

Don't worry - thank you for taking the time to reply. If she does this again, I think I will take her to the vet - but it only happens occasionally, and she's seemes perfectly healthy and happy each time it's happened, so I haven't worried too much - so far. If it carries on, that will change.

Just to update you - today ddog went through a spell of leaving little puddles behind her wherever she went, so we made an appointment with the vet. He says she probably is wetting herself from time to time, and maybe her urine is very dilute for some reason (but he doesn't seem worried by this). He said that, because she's been spayed, she might have a low level of a hormone that is making her bladder a bit slack, so he's put her on some tablets which he says will help.

If, after the initial course, she starts having accidents again, we can go back for more tablets, but he seemed to think it wouldn't be a constant issue, and it might be months before it recurs - and it might get better as she gets older. He also thought it might be a bit stress-related at the moment, because we are dog-sitting our neighbour's lab (her 'best friend') and maybe her nose is a bit out of joint, because the other dog is far more of a dominant, 'forward' dog than Coco is (though we are doing our best to give Coco extra cuddles and bits of special attention).
