ANY CHOW OWNERS OUT THERE - CHOW RESCUE NEEDED!

Vallhala · 16/05/2011 18:37

I've a need to find a rescue place for a Chow cross. Have never come across one in need of rescue before and so have no specific breed rescue contacts. I've found one on the net but wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of Chow rescue please and could advise, recommend, warn or whatever, here or by pm if preferred.

Thanks!

Valhalla, I dont know of any Chow rescues near me... but I do know someone who has one and has worked bloody hard with it.

Can text her and see if she knows of anyone if you want me to? PM me if you want me to ask her.

Coffee, go for it please, thank you. Will pm you with my email address, sorry for the delay in responding, been sorting out DD and school stuff.

OBWNB, yep the same, pound manager is getting desperate and I made the mistake of putting it off because of aforementioned DD school issues. Am on the case now and have been on phone half the night. So far have secured donation to any rescue which can take the dogs, can offer a small amount myself to go towards it and have had chats with mad as cheese and as mad as me rescues. Made great new contacts but little headway but will continue to fight for help throughout tonight if needed and carry on tomorrow after I've returned from a Quack's appointment. :)

Bless your heart OBWNB, thank you from the bottom of mine. IME the promise of funding often makes a rescue more willing to take on a dog and so as you can imagine that's so much appreciated.

I've left a message with my fellow certain "rescue" hating person who runs her own GSD rescue (given the fears of where these two might end up nad what will happen to them if they do) and am waiting on a reply, hoping and praying that she will have room for them amongst her foster carers. Will call her again when I get back from the docs, I only have her home number but have just thought of someone who just MIGHT have a mobile number too.

This evening has been a revelation and a nightmare... have learned of backbiting and in house fighting between rescues that I want NO ruddy part of but have made lovely contacts along the way.

That makes no sense! I'll try again!

I've left a messge with someone who runs a rescue and who hates the big "rescue organisation" who are trying to muscle in on these two dogs and who, if they take over will almost certainly kill them. It is she from whom I hope to get a reply tomorrow morning and who will call again if I haven't got a reply by lunchtime tomorrow.

Is that more intelligable? Hope so!

Val; have your tried Vigil? or GSD rescue or GargoGSD? I cant see if there are no kill policies, but its worth a shot...

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 10:42

Tried Vigil (not taking dogs in citing lack of funds), Garbo is lovely but can't help (has 2 coming in which were about to be PTS because the fucking owners have bought a puppy and they don't want their adult Sheps any more Angry ), left a message with Jayne at GSD Rescue and about to try calling again, called Oldies last night spoke again this morning, they will check fosterer lists but very doubtful indeed, tried Chow Rescue for the Chow X without success.... next stop Pat at MUTTS and All Dogs Matter, the Gladys at Pro Dogs and the lovely Rob who takes in the real problem cases... maybe he'll want two easy dogs this time.... and then Large Breed, then Iron Mountain.... then Brew and then I'll carry on calling and mailing....

Back asap! :)

Cinammon Trust? Seeing as they are older dogs...

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 17/05/2011 11:17

well I have left messages with a couple of people to see what they can do. Wont see either of them until tomorrow evening at Dog Club, if my back is better by then. Hopefully they will text/email back soon with some more ideas.

When we move back to Scotland I am going to buy a place where I can have lots and lots of rescue dogs with fields where they can run around and play and never be PTS.

MotherJack · 17/05/2011 11:29

Hope you have made some more headway. Have you contacted Doris Banham? I can chip in something towards kenneling if it helps sweeten the deal.

My friend had her dog off Iron Mountain. (Totally irrelevant, I know).

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 17/05/2011 12:47

I can give number for Iron Mountain - although assume you have it already. Will also chuck in a few quid. x

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 15:54

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I've found rescue places in dedicated GSD breed rescue in the frozen North for both these dogs! THANK YOU Lancashire GSD Rescue! :)

They will live with a foster carer who already has a male and female old couple and will be close too to the Rescue's owner (who can see them becoming lifers!).

THANKS LADIES!

Now my next problem is arranging a transport run by appealing to my rescue and AR contacts to offer to do the journey in stages, handing the pooches over to the next driver at meet-up points alone the M-whatever it is from Surrey to Lancs.

My sense of direction is appalling, my map-reading a disaster and my ability to judge time and distance zilch and my geography a joke... and I hate organising transport runs, really hate it!

Wish me luck please!

MotherJack · 17/05/2011 16:07

So pleased for you, Val, and obviously the dogs too!... all that hard work you put in.
I have sent you a message on FB re transport - possible offer of Doncaster area to Preston but she can't message you.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/05/2011 16:09

Useful for journey planning.

MotherJack · 17/05/2011 16:12

I like Google for journey planning, too. maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&xhr=t&q=surrey&cp=3&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Looks like a from Doncaster run will not work well as by the time the dogs are driven there, they could be nearly in Preston if they took the M40/M6.

Anyway - good luck!! Grin

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 16:15

Thank you! Can I run and hide from working out maps and timing hand-overs? Pleeeease! :o

OP posts:
MotherJack · 17/05/2011 16:52

Well, we'll give you 5 minutes off then.

It's easy with Google maps - click on "get Directions" and type in 2 place names - tells you how long in both time and distance. (I'm sure you know this and are just being a big girl!! Wink)

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 17/05/2011 18:42

well done Valhalla.

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 18:44

Cheers Matey! :)

Google bloody maps here I come...
