We've had horror dog living with us for nearly a year now. We've taken him to school and worked hard with him. He's just over a year old and we had him neutered in Feb. He bolts.

All our training has been treat based, and it's not working for his racing off. He runs away on his line sometimes and always gets caught. He jumped out of our bedroom window for an adrenaline rush, then got stuck in some undergrowth.

Frankly I would bolt him with electricity if I thought it might work. I won't. I haven't invested in a spray collar because it is easy to get it wrong and make things worse.

I have been advised that his behaviour may start with small things in and around the house and the running off is a symptom of this.

Anyone know a good behaviour person in East Anglia?

We have been to very good trainers and behaviourists previously but we no longer live in the same place.

Lucy at Baybrook

I can't promise that she's still practising but she's the lady to whom the rescue I help at turn.

Eh? What sort of English is that???!

Oh rollocks... I meant Lucy's good, done some great assessments for the rescue dogs I know and well worth contacting.

There. That's better!

Ha ha ha!! I just read the end of your post! Thanks for the link. I'll give her a ring tomorrow. It's very hard who to trust in these things. I spoke to a fantastic behaviourist today, but sadly he's not to hand. Dogs are hard to understand, and we're learning more about them all the time. If I were horror dog's real mum, I'd be furious at his behaviour. I guess in dog world, he would not have been allowed to race off without serious consequences much much sooner in his life.
