Introducing new baby to dog?

I have 2 DC and a dog I am pg with DC3. I am hoping to have a home birth and was going to send my dog with my DC to my mums. So he stays out of MWS way and will get lots of attention there and have a good time with my mums dog.

How do I go about introducing them then?

I had three home births with the dog in the house. She was fine with it, the only barking was when the second midwife knocked on the door at 3am, 10 mins after the arrival of dd2 Grin

We let her meet the new baby fairly early on each time. With dd2 is was right after the arrival of 2nd MW as it was the fastest way to stop the barking!

With dd3 and ds it was a little later. From what I remember, baby was wrapped up in a blanket or towel and the dog was allowed to come in and have a quick sniff and a look. Dog was then praised and given a treat to take back to her bed. She had more sniffs and washed the occasional ear over the next few days :)
