Is anyone elses dog moulting excessively?

Our dog is moulting ridiculously - more than she does even in summer.
Seriously, it's like great balls of tumbleweed on the floor in the kitchen!

She's long haired and moults pretty much all year round anyway, but at the minute it's so excessive that I'm vacuuming 3 times a day
She looks like a right scruffbag too, bless her.

Anyone elses pooch moulting like there's no tomorrow?
Any tips to help?

Yes! One of mine is shedding like buggery...I have never known him to shed so badly, even in the height of summer!

My other one, who has a much heavier coat isn't shedding any worse than usual.

I mentioned it to the vet when we were there on ther business and she said that it's quite normal at this time of year when they spend more time inside with the central heating on.

I wish he'd bloody stop...everytime the merest hint of a draught blows through the downstairs, it looks like we've been invaded by legions of small furry critters...no matter how often I sweep up (which, admittedly isn't that often...I'm very busy a slattern).

Ah yes, the central heating - that makes sense.

I might switch it off and embrace the cold ...anything that'll help with this damn shedding ... Wink

If you want to hurry up the process, give her a bath. The act of shampooing will help to loosen any dead fur and then you can brush it out of her when she's dry.

Or if you know anyone who owns a blaster (big, powerful dog hairdryer), borrow it...it's great for blowing out the loose fur. I have one (necessity for my other breed), but baldy dog hates it with a passion and gives me the 'Seriously, I will call the RSPCA' look every time I bring it out of the cupboard.

Ladies, can I introduce...

....the Furminator!

Plonker · 07/02/2011 21:00

So, she has been bathed, and brushed twice a day but she's still leaving furry carpets behind every time she stands up!

The furminator looks good OldLady - I may invest Smile
