Indestructible Dog Bed - are they really indestructible ?

Came down this morning to find lab 6.5 months had chewed part of her bed again , looked like it had been snowing in the kitchen, , you know that white fuff they fill dog beds with.

Anyway googled 'indestructible dog bed ' not thinking I would find anything and low and behold there they were . Some companies offering money back etc of dog should chew through .

So if you have an 'indestructible dog bed ' would it stand up to a lab puppy and is it really indestructible ?

they do appear pricey but I suppose in the long run it will work out OK. (if they really do stand up to lab puppy )

My lab cross used to have a wicker dog bed until he completely chewed it to pieces during an unhappy stay at some kennels.
We subsequently got him one of the beds made of thick, heavy plastic.
We lined it with a blanket and he was very comfortable in it.
He never managed to make more than a mere dent in it by chewing.

My lab got through a plastic bed very quickly. He also destroyed my wicker shoe basket as a pup.

He currently has a dog douvet but i'm going to a dog show next week and i'm going to have a look for a new bed. Not seen the indestructable bed but will look out for it.

I have an old duvet - I might just go for that until she is a bit older !

tibni - let us know what you find at the dog show - if you find something tell the company that I am willing , or rather my dog , to try the bed out and prove them wrong !

We had the Waggers one you have linked to.

Our GSD had destroyed several other beds just by scrabbling around in them and this one was fine.

Infact 3 dogs later it's still going strong. However, none of them have been chewers - just scratchers.

It is v tough - the material is canvas like and quite stiff, I can't actually imagine a dog chewing through it. Also, there are no zips to be nibbled and tugged.

We had the waggers one - found that it didn't get chewed but the insides got a bit damp (not sure if it was wee/condensation. Went really manky quite quickly.

Have just received (last week) a tuffies one (waterproof cover not the indestructible one) - it's made of very similar material to the waggers bed (if not even tougher). The think that I liked was that the mattress is completely sealed in of accidents and condensation can't get in. It can be hosed down to keep clean.

When our dog was very young and a really bad chewer we just used Vet Bed - it was never chewed up.

We've been through many types of dog bed and I can think there is no such thing as an indestructable one. For what it is worth, I would rather be picking up the never-ending fluff from a ripped duvet or soft dog bed that see my dogs with bleeding gums from chewing on a plastic one.

My dog chwed through an indestructible bed quite quickly. They did give the money back but now I give her old teddies to suck and chew and restuff the bed till it gets so horrible I buy a new one!

The bed I got was like a flat rectangular mat, btw, not that one that looks like a rubber dinghy!

With the Waggers one we have two covers and change them and air the bed at least twice a week - otherwise, as loler said the inside goes manky.

i have 2 waterproof wipe clean tuffies.
Husky who ate everything including the couch has never even tried to chew them.
He is kenneled out side so the fact they are wipe clean and totally waterproof realy sold them to me but also proved to live up to the indestructable label.

Tuffie all the way here too. I bought mine at Crufts and having recently adopted a second dog, i m looking for a second tuffie at this years crufts. they are so good, worth every penny.

I haven't tried them, but when mine was at that very chewy stage I put vetbed in a hard plastic bed and she never managed to chew through that (and seemed quite happy!) - also very easy to clean

I have gone through numerous beds for our dogs, now Loofa sleeps on a double duvet that fits in the washing machine and Lolly has a large piece of vetbed for now.

no point spending lots of money on posh beds when puppies, they just trash them ime.

Although when I go to dog show/crufts this year I plan on getting a couple of large waterproof beds, my friend has these for her shepherds and they are amazing.

There IS a really indestructible dog bed, as opposed to "virtually" indestructible, many of which I've had to return and be reimbursed.

I had spent hundreds, if not thousands of pounds on every sort of bed imaginable for one of my 6 year old dogs, but the Really Tough Tuffie, although not cheap, has saved my money and my sanity!!!

It is warm, comfy (I've tried it:-) and my dog just loves it, and after 3 years there still isn't a scratch or chew on it. It's waterproof too, so I just have to wipe it down with warm soapy water, but you can also hose it down.

I found a great bed for my golden retriever on this site No more headache.

My youngest got his teeth through the woven Toughie bed in 20 minutes. He wasn't chewing it, just trying to move it. I contacted them and they were very sniffy about it. They said they would refund me the cost of the bed if I sent it back to them. Can you guess the postage for a massive dog bed? I'd already paid them about £9 in delivery charges! I only used them because of a recommendation from here.
