What breed (or cross breed) would you recommend for us?

We are thinking of getting a dog and I have my mind set on a particular cross breed but think I need to open up for other suggestions as I dont want a puppy and like to rehome a dog.

So here goes what we could offer and like from a dog:

Long walks off lead so good recall
Good with other dogs as look after friends dogs
Good with kids, must be ball mad
Would like to do agility (as would DS)
Likes swimming
Preferably short haired
Easy to train
Medium sized

Any breeds that spring to mind? many thanks

It isn't going to be possible to suggest breeds/crossbreeds that fit all your criteria.

"Good recall - good with other dogs - good with kids".... these are training issues, on the whole. There is no one dog breed/crossbreed that will automatically have a good recall etc!

Since you want to rehome a dog, the best thing you can do is contact rescues with your list and find an individual dog who fits in with what you want. You might well end up with a shortlist comprising all sorts of vastly different breeds.

Bear in mind that things like recall need practise throughout the dog's life.

Just getting frustrateed, I have been looking at various sites and we have been so close three times now in getting the cross breed I'd like . Either there was somebody quicker then us with the adoption paperwork or owners decided to keep the dog after all.

Am going to go to the local rescue next week and take it from there. Thanks again for your help.
