I know this is probably bad form but I'm not amused by the sheer depth of ignorance my laptop and I have just been subjected to!

Pleeeease have a look over here and educate enlighten these posters, before I completely lose it with them!

I apologise to all the sensible, reasonable dog owners for the utter arrogance of my post but I just didn't think that my point would sink in otherwise.

nameymcnamechange · 31/08/2010 23:03

Val - I think you simply have to accept that not everyone feels as passionately about dogs as you do.

Vallhala · 31/08/2010 23:08

Blush, I know, I know.

But... but... I don't feel as passionately about Boden as other people might yet I don't go around spreading mis-information which could prove dangerous to them based on the fact that one of their jumpers fell apart and I find their clothes ugly!

Okay, bad comparison.

I'd just appreciate, for the sake of the hundreds of dogs who die in pounds each week, someone to come along and support the facts I've tried to explain.

Alright, I know, I'll get my coat...

:)

Its probably not a good day to be trying to make your point, tbh.

kid · 01/09/2010 00:23

I haven't time to read your link right now Vall as I'm in bed and meant to be going to sleep, (got work in the morning).

But just wanted to say if your point is put across and understood by just some people, that's got to be better than not posting your view and no-one learning the harsh truth.

Well done for always standing up and speaking for our canine friends.

MeMudmagnet · 01/09/2010 00:28

I read that thread and couldn't believe the ignorance of some of the posters.
To be honest most of them sounded like loons.

"All dogs should be muzzled in public/never let off the lead...blah..blah..blah"

There ARE enough good owners out there to tip the balance. These morons and their opinions ARE in the minority.

cryhavoc · 01/09/2010 00:34

I was over there, Val. It upsets me to have to counter such ignorance, and that's why I usually stay away. But I love Rottweilers, so had to speak up.

Vallhala · 01/09/2010 00:38

THANK YOU!

Val x

Oh I saw that earlier but I was already late for work due to the girl in the pet shop falling in love with Scruff and asking half a million questions about him, whilst stroking him and throwing treats in his direction. Not that I mind talk about my dog Grin

I conceded that the op and a fair few of the posters (the ones agreeing with her) were eejits who would never see reason because they are too pig headed and are probably readers of The Daily Mail. I fear there is no hope for them.

I shall try sitting on my hands so I can read to the end of the thread, but I will probably fail Wink

spikeycow · 01/09/2010 08:41

Have made my point on there in my own special way.

minimu1 · 01/09/2010 08:58

Val don't give up now girl! You just need to take a deep breath and if you get through to one person it is one more than before. You know you are right we know you are right, sensible people know you are right.

I admit I am a coward and do tend to stay away from these threads but then I also stay away from a lot of other ones for similiar reasons uneducated people banging on about things they know nothing about!

moonmother · 01/09/2010 09:41

Backed you up 100% Val.

I think in time we'll end up like the US where there are parks for humans and parks for dogs, and never the twain shall meet. Very sad I know.

Sadly not all people feel about dogs(or if me animals in general) as we do, and some fear and hate them intently. With these type of people and the people who only buy these 'dangerous' dogs as 'status symbols' the rest of the dog loving population has a lot to be concerned about, I fear.

I too, usually stay away from those type of threads, because you can argue as a responsible dog owner till your blue in the face- you'll never change their minds .

Had to come and stand up and be counted with you Val tho Wink

Laska · 01/09/2010 11:45

sighs

Let's just BAN EVERYTHING because then life would be PERFECT!

Excellent posts on that thread Val, but sadly I suspect it's a losing battle as most of these sheeple people just react to what they're told in the media. Who run ignorant stories with pictures of slavering dogs.

more sighing

morethanyoubargainfor · 01/09/2010 11:50

i too am in agreement with you val and probably as passionate as you, i did post on the thread and i hope it comes accross like that.

I am 'a big' dog fan and have 2 myself and would love more.

Vallhala · 01/09/2010 12:26

I love you guys!

I agree with you, Val. And I don't own a dog. I have to hide that thread now. It's really, REALLY bugging me....

spikeycow · 01/09/2010 16:42

My God I hate the "I prefer people over animals you are nuts" lot. Like being heartless makes them superior over the nutty too soft animal people. In fact animal lovers are 10000000000 times more civilised than them.

seaturtle · 01/09/2010 16:51

I thought animal lovers were percieved as nicer, more approachable people. Obviously not by some people in that thread whose ignorance frankly baffles me.

My 2 year old loves dogs, and I am in the process of teaching him to ask permission from mum and owner before running up to them. We had a lovely encounter with a huge drooling English mastiff the other week who gave him a big kiss. The only time I've had to snatch him away from potential danger was from a very vicious chihuahua.

Lizcat · 01/09/2010 22:14

I've been thinking about this all day and am afraid my scars are too fresh to be able to post on the other thread after poor Fetlar's narrow escape last week. But the attitude over there is terrible.
I personally have only been bitten by westies and in my practice these are the most dangerous dogs because they come with the ' oh he just wants to say hello' ' NO he wants to bite me'. The bravest dog have ever encountered is a beautiful Rottie who was rescued from an awful life by one of my farm animal clients she has had a couple of injuries on the farm (she seems to actively seek trouble), but she is so easy to treat as she lies there looking at her owner with that ' If you say it's okay Dad then it must be' look letting us do really awful stuff to her.
99% of the dog owning population are wonderful responsible people, even though I have very recent awful experience of the 1% I still wouldn't punish the 99%.
Oh yes and thanks to around 20 wonderful owners in the silver and gold classes at my dog training tonight Fetlar got to met and interact with big polite dogs to build his confidence back up.

Vallhala · 01/09/2010 22:56

I'm REALLY glad Fetlar is regaining his confidence Lizcat. Long may it continue.

C'mon now, please tell, what's with the name Fetlar? It's grand, but a new one on me!

OP posts:
Vallhala · 01/09/2010 22:58

OK... it's a Scottish island.

Disclaimer: I have already admitted on the News thread wrt a girl throwing puppies into a river that geography was never my strong point!

OP posts:
Bella32 · 02/09/2010 09:06

I'm not getting drawn into that silly thread but I did pmsl at your Boden comment, Val - especially as I agree with you 100%!!!

Hideous, hideous, hideous. Overpriced, poor quality and hideous. Did I mention hideous?

If Boden was sold in pound shops rather than being marketed at middle class 'yummy mummies' nobody, but nobody, would buy it. But pop some hideous clashing prints in a nice little catalogue, photographed on a Dorset beach, and Bob - or rather Johnnie - is your uncle. Hideous.

Gawd, I feel so much better now. Have a great day, Val Wink

Bella32 · 02/09/2010 09:13

Maybe we could introduce a new bye law to protect the public - people are not allowed to own more than 2 items of Boden clothing.

Nah - even that's too many!! Grin

It drives me mad too, Val that people are so anti-breed. It's not mostly the sodding breed, but the tossers who take them on. Our trainer in London had a gorgeous Rotweiler who was like putty in his hands. We have collies. I think the onus lies with the owner. After all, we make dogs in our image. We play god over what dogs get bred and what don't. We are entirely responsible for our dog population, and need to act on it. Rant over!
