It's an interesting concept but not that funny. However...am now on episode 2.
Never thought Danny Dyer would make me laugh out loud. New World, innit? Wink

I dipped in. I didn't last three hours, though! 😀Yeah, the odd funny line, but plonkingly obvious and charmless. Vaguely reminded me of Brassic, OK, it's laddish, but that worked, where this certainly doesn't.

I swear the BBC no longer has any clue what a good comedy is - their new shoes are alwasy so hit (rarely) or miss (often).

Or maybe I am now old as I am sure my Gran used to say something similar? Grin

Well when I gave up on this, I tried The Power of Parker on the i-player, and thought it was very good; best comedy I'd seen in a while.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/08/2023 16:30

Ooh, I'll give Power of Parker a look then.
I loved Frisk on ITVX.
Starstruck returns September on iplayer but might be the law of diminishing returns.
Henpocalypse - had an excellent review from Guardian.
I was really looking forward to it because I loved Raised by Wolves* so much (same writer) but this was more like Hullraisers (same writer) that I didn't get through.

*Della Garry was a brilliant character (played by Rebekah Staton). Loved her.
I guess Veena was meant to be similar but was underwritten.

The characters in Henpocalypse just weren't likeable. Couldn't root for them.
Bern was like something out of Shameless (didn't much like that either but it was better written). I was brought up on a council estate/working class background and never understand why in some sitcoms, shitty aggressive or drunken behaviour is lauded/seen as a source of humour. It irks me.
Nor do I like characters whose main shtick is that we're meant to laugh at their stupidity (Gary/Jen).

The ending also annoyed me (but not sure anyone else will stick with it long enough to discuss! Grin).

I haven’t got round to watching a full episode yet. (old fart with Freesat)

Switching the TV off (it was recording) I saw a brief bit where they were venturing to the village store to get supplies. I loved the line: “I hope they’ve got tampons cos this moss is bollocks!”.

I’m easily amused…

aqiarious · 17/08/2023 00:22

I didn't make it to the end of the episode. Not good. Though now I want to know how it ended.

OtterInDisgrace · 17/08/2023 00:32

Also didn’t finish the episode. Shame as it sounded great on paper, but didn’t even raise a smile let alone a laugh.

SequinsandStiIettos · 17/08/2023 15:44

on a cliff hanger pretty much, which is frustrating as doubtful it will be renewed

Just seen e1

havent read thread so don’t spoil it for myself

VanGoghsDog · 19/08/2023 01:26

Saw one and a bit of two, can't be bothered with the rest.
Power of Parker was very good.
Fisk is excellent, she's basically me.

Netaporter · 21/08/2023 01:43

I must be easily amused because I’m on ep4 and actually enjoying it 😆

BertismyDad · 21/08/2023 22:25

I've just watched the end and came on here to find out what everyone else thought. Really grinds my gears being left on a cliffhanger!!

SequinsandStiIettos · 22/08/2023 19:50

Happy to discuss but we'd need to add spoiler to the thread title so that it isn't spoiled for VanGoghsDog or Netaporter.
I have to say, I am no good with cliff hangers, especially when they might not get another series. Santa Clarita Diet was one. I like concrete endings. Triangle of sadness movie wound me up no end.

Thanks @MNHQ You've been on it like a rocket today and yesterday, super fast Cheers Flowers
*@BertismyDad
I loved all of Danny Dyer's cameo.
Re the end Ya die! Ya die! Ya die!
Meh. Bern had an embedded nail or dart? Might have just passed out.
Gary might turn out to have immunity outside of his presumably deflating bubble. Zara's gun clicked but didn't bang? Potentially she'd have second thoughts killing Shelly.
Not sure they have enough to go on for a second series though.

BertismyDad · 22/08/2023 21:25

@SequinsandStiIettos hmmm hadn't even considered Bern but you are right, it was a bit suspicious! I can't imagine Garry has been in that Zorb for 9 weeks without any fresh air getting in so I reckon he's fine. Can't make up my mind about Zara/Shelly. Definitely not enough content for a second series, although I did enjoy the silliness of it all and Danny Dyer was hilarious 😆 so I reckon we might have to live with never knowing 😖

FatArse123 · 23/08/2023 20:40

Humour is so personal, I thought it was hilarious! I see reviews are very mixed.

Netaporter · 23/08/2023 21:38

Aww thanks for the warning guys! I loved the ending. Could go either way- s2 or a sopranos style ending…. I just love Danny Dyer, so up for taking the piss out of himself. If you don’t already listen to the Kathy Burke Podcast ‘where there’s a will, there’s a wake’ then listen to the Danny Dyer ep. Just pure gold 😂

the80sweregreat · 23/08/2023 21:49

I did enjoy this tbh
Had a dodgy start, but seeing the fit guy in gold pants cheered me up and I loved how bonkers it was all round
I doubt Gary could have survived that long !
It was funny and I was cheering on Shell as they all treated her like poo :(

the80sweregreat · 23/08/2023 21:49

D D was funny
He loves taking the Mickey out of himself
