It's quite astonishing but also sad. These women must feel such a gap in their lives.

Tootlesmummy · 05/07/2010 20:24

I watched it a few days ago and I found it slightly disturbing to be honest. Why would you want to have a doll as a substitute baby!?

ilovesprouts · 05/07/2010 20:29

sat here like this

i think the grandmother needs councelling or something.

and the one who goes of the usa to pick up her baby is just mad. why has she got so many prams??

SandyBits · 05/07/2010 20:32

I remember watching this when it was first on. I found it upsetting, mostly because of the grandmother. You're led to believe that her grandson must have died, when in fact he's in Australia The woman wiht all the prams is deranged, all that money on that tacky gear!

mumatron · 05/07/2010 20:38

when i saw the pram i thought 'thats a bit extreme' then the showed the room with them all in i was amazed!

My bloody freind has one. She puts it in the car seat and rives round with it.

I have to tread very carefully not to snigger and upset her. But its her thing and she isnt harming anyone. Weird thing is she has two fabulous teenage daughters

mumatron · 05/07/2010 20:42

i can sort of understand it if someone cant have a baby for whatever reason, but some of these people are bonkers.

olivo · 05/07/2010 20:44

I am at this! there is some serious money going on there too. and the american doll was very very scary looking - surely if you're ordering one, you'd go for a pretty one?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/07/2010 20:52

You can get them on e-bay, they creep me out a bit tbh, but each to his/her own .

I remember watching this a few years back and being quite shocked.

I felt quite sorry for the lady whose grandson had moved to Australia, especially as when she showed him her 'baby' via webcam he seemed to think she was just a bit batty!

I think the thing that stuck with me the most was the lady in America (? I think!) who noticed a crack in the dolls skull when they were 'bonding' and then was filmed talking about how upset she was because she wasn't perfect and how she wanted to send her back.
As awful as this sounds, and I'll probably get flamed for saying it, but perhaps it's a good thing she had not had children if that is her attitude.
What would she do if her baby was born with a disability? Disown it because it is not perfect to her?
