?DoNation? - a major BBC ?season? on organ donation and transplantation
BBC1 is screening five half-hour documentaries and a Saturday night Casualty/Holby City special as part of its ?season? highlighting issues around organ donation and transplantation.
Life On The List will tell personal stories about organ donation at 7pm on BBC1 from Monday to Friday, while a special one-hour documentary following a kidney transplant from a live donor will be seen at 9pm on Tuesday 23 August on BBC1.
The Casualty/Holby City special, will for the first time invite viewers to vote by phone to determine the outcome of the organ donation storyline. This programme will also include a factual break while votes are counted and when real life transplant personnel will explain key scenes from the drama in more detail.
The season, which was commissioned by BBC Learning and BBC One, will be promoted under the title ?DoNation?, and its aim is to raise awareness, explain the facts, dispel myths and encourage people to make an informed decision about whether to add their name to the NHS Organ Donor Register.
The season will also feature a dedicated website on www.bbc.co.uk, and broadcasts on regional and national radio including Radio 1, Radio 2, Asian Network, 1Xtra.
