I think it's because, although he's American (Canadian?) he's spent so much time here that - love him or loathe him - we kind of think of him as British now. So WTF is he doing in Fairview? He should be in Cardiff!

He is actually Scottish - born near Glasgow and moved to the US (midwest) as a child with his parents. He still speaks with a Scottish accent when with his family: he developed the US accent to cut down on the teasing/bullying he got as school in the US.
