expatinscotland · 16/06/2010 21:53

It's a joke.

On the Peckham people.

And I don't think it's funny.

Monty100 · 16/06/2010 21:55

Well, we've certainly got extremes here!

expatinscotland · 16/06/2010 21:56

These gals just treat these peoples' lives like they're some kind of joke.

Like a little slumming it to get on TV.

I don't understand why either would want to do it. Have I missed the point?

The 'poshies' are heartless bitches.

expatinscotland · 16/06/2010 22:02

The U chicks don't seem very nice, tbh.

'I thought you were a filthy little chav.'

Oh, okay.

Because she cleans toilets for a living?

Nice.

Monty100 · 17/06/2010 10:29

Expat - yes, I winced then too.

I think it might be more interesting next week now that the formalities and introductions have been made.

I live not that far away from there lol.

atomicsnowflake · 17/06/2010 12:14

Personally, I found the Peckham girls very defensive and rude. They keep wanting the visitors to be truthful, then complain and insult them when they are. They can't have it both ways. They also seem to have massive chips on their shoulders. Repeatedly calling someone "stuck up" simply because they went to private school and speak in a certain way is just plain rude. Don't they realise that these women are visitors and that they should make an effort to help them in their experience, not be reactive and unpleasant?

I think you are taking this quote out of context.

IIRC this was said near the end where one of the "posh" girls was a bit upset that she had been pre-judged as stuck up by her Peckam sisters before they had even hadthe chance to meet her or know her. She was saying this as a "What if I had said....." to show how unfair this was.

I like the woman who is running the thing (who has an extraordinary name which I have now forgotten)

atomicsnowflake · 17/06/2010 13:33

I think her name was Peaches.

As someone who has lived in the area for 12 years, please note Peckham has been portrayed through the warped eyes of a TV producer for cheap and easy entertainment value. It truly is a gross misrepresentation of the area. All that guff about having to do Kung Fu was just laughable. Had I had to take up self-defence lessons to 'stay-alive on the streets' I would have moved out years ago. Believe me when I say it's hardly Helmand Province.

During my time here I can honestly say I have never seen anyone with a knife, gun, shooting up in alleyways blah, blah, blah... That's not to say it doesn't happen (as in most places in the UK it does), it's just not part of how the majority of us live here everyday.

As with all areas of London it's an area of contrast: the shop shown serving the giant snails and goats' heads on Rye Lane is right opposite Morrisons, council estates brush alongside grand Georgian houses, and had the girls walked along a street not 500 metres away they could have found an independent shop selling designer clothes they might have preferred.

It really was a shameful p*ss-take.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2010 15:30

course the tv producer finds the worst/chaviest places/people as that makes good tv

i thought the posh lot were totally spolit and peckham girls ok, tho what was the large ear ring brigade about?

pinkgrapefruitjuice · 17/06/2010 15:46

Thought the posh girls were disrespectful towards Peckham and the people there.

The blonde Peckham girl made a good point about if she had 30quid to spend on clothes she would be grateful, whereas the posh girls bought stuff they didnt like to take the piss... coupled with all the giggling and crying in church .. they really need to grow up!

Monty100 · 23/06/2010 21:24

Resurrected this from last week. Have just started watching it and all tearful already.

Alambil · 23/06/2010 23:18

it was good this week; love the work Peaches did with them in the bonding thing
