I know there has been a crisis in advertising and I assume the deals where certain companies sponsor programmes or channels is at least keeping them alive, but I was puzzled about how things have changed over time...

I do most viewing between 9pm and 3am. I tend to watch action / adventure / sci-fi more than history or soap (I guess The Bill had crossed over from the early days where each episode of 30 minutes was a story in itself to lengthier and lengthier plots and interaction on the lines of a soap, so maybe it has had its day).

Anyway, something that struck me (as a watcher of Five, Five USA, Dave and ITV4 more than most other channels) is how there have been (apart from the some car advert - I guess "Papa" died a while ago) for cosmetics and oddly, Whey Protein (as in "curds and whey" - products from milk in cheese making).

Years ago late at night they put adverts for some weedkillers that only farmers would buy, now they have some rugby players and Whey Protein... any other oddities people can think of ?

PS Glad they no longer do the "you've been Tangoed" with an air horn, or the noisy Cillit Bang! ads as they are a pain when they come on at full blast when a quiet film has been on and you switch the volume up!
