Steve and Becky Adoption Storyline in Corrie

What are people's thoughts on this? If they do the story sensitively and keep to a realistic timeline, then I think it's a really good thing that they're tackling it. My concern is that they'll speed it up for tv viewerdom, which could give a really false sense of the process.
Also - Steve and Becky... how likely would they be to get taken on by an agency in real life?

What was Steve in prison for?

sterrryerryoh · 04/04/2010 21:47

Can't remember - something to do with violence in his youth? Nothing to do with children, though

how old are they? Isn't there an age issue?

sterrryerryoh · 04/04/2010 21:50

No not really - the general feeling is that there should be 45 years between you and your adopted child as a maximum (so, if you're 50, you could adopt a 5 year old for example). There isn't really a younger age limit that I'm aware of. Their marriage has been pretty tempestuous, though, and they haven't been together for very long. Also, she has JUST lost 2 babies - I'm not sure social services would touch them for a year at least!

didn't she go to prison too?

wastwinsetandpearls · 04/04/2010 21:52

I can't believe that they would be allowed to adopt.

sterrryerryoh · 04/04/2010 21:52

Yes, I think so

shed been in prison, isnt that were she met the girl from the factory? I think realistically they will have to look at a surrogate.

Loved the scene the other night when the women were in the garden and the men in the pub all discussing adoption and, it being a soap, declaring exactly how many of them had either been brought up by someone who wasn't a birth parent or who were bringing up a child that wasn't theirs by birth.
And there was dear Tyrone totally unaware that he's about to bring up a child that isn't biologically his.

I would say they are handling the story line pretty well

where's sally these days?

Nancy66 · 10/04/2010 12:06

it's good that they're doing an adoption storyline but there's no way they would be able to adopt in real life.

both have criminal records, mother has a history with drugs and alcohol, father been married three times and has a daughter by a woman that's serving life for murder!

FunnyLittleFrog · 10/04/2010 12:38

I bet what will happen is they will be turned down for adoption and then it will all go over-the-top-soap-opera-style and they will either pay a surrogate or 'steal' a baby (Molly's?.

kittya · 10/04/2010 14:45

they did a similiar story before though with Violet so, I hope not. I dont think Molly would give her baby away but realistically it is the way forward, maybe they will go to America!
