Please, please put Channel 4+1 on right now.

It's just started and there's a guy on it who's lost loads of weight so has gone to see Dr Christian because he has rather a lot of overhanging tummy skin which hides his penis. Which is reasonably funny in itself, but due to a rather dodgy tummy tuck he now looks like he's got buttocks on his tummy. Hilarious.

I have no sympathy for anyone who goes on this show.

If that's not enough to attract you, Dr Christian is going to measure the willies of an entire rugby team.

Wahey, my sides are splitting at the thought!!

Um, no, not really.

I do often watch it, for reasons other than ridicule, but I'm currently enjoying the synth pop on BBC4 far too much.

Ondine · 26/03/2010 22:41

Buried Penis syndrome.... oh dear really why would he go on this show and tell the world.

TeenyTinyToria · 26/03/2010 22:52

One of the guys they saw in Glasgow is an actor I kind of know - so weird to see someone you know on this programme!

Kewcumber · 26/03/2010 22:56

Yes hilarious

You don't think some people are brave enough to go on because they think it might encourage others to go to their GP.

From memory a little girl was diagnosed with a nasty cancer on that programme. Was that hilarious too - did you have any symptahy for her?

YourCallIsImportant · 26/03/2010 22:56

Good on the penis guy for losing 19 stone, but honestly, why not just go to your own GP?

I'm guessing too, that he's got to go to work on Monday.

What do they expect, getting their bits out on national TV?

I always presumed they went on so that they could
a) get faster diagnosis/treatment than on the nhs
b) get free treatment for things they might otherwise have to pay for

such as breast enlargements, tummy tucks, laser hair removal...

If I had these problems and didn't have the money then perhaps I'd be tempted to go on tv to show everyone, especially since they'd show that whatever was wrong had been fixed by the end of the programme. (apart from the bloke who couldn't 'wipe' properly a couple of weeks ago)

There was a funny patient once, I don't know if you ladies saw it - where a man came in and said he'd exhausted the help from his gp and he had what appeared to be a 'beer belly', his gp had just told him he was fat but he was 100% sure he wasn't just fat and had something medically wrong. So the programme did various scans of his belly to find out if it was filled with gas or something else to make it appear 'fat'. The final diagnosis was...he was fat.

lucykate · 27/03/2010 17:33

i really felt for the poor bloke, from what he said, i got the impression he'd already been through the referral from gp route and had already had a tummy tuck, but it either hadn't worked very well, or he's lost yet more weight since. i think some go on the programme out of sheer desperation due to lack of support/options via the nhs.

don't poke fun at him or others with serious conditions compared to the lady who said she had 'abscesses' in her groin, when they were just spots due to shaving.

Tyson86 · 27/03/2010 17:37

lucykate couldnt agree more with you about the groin woman, very glad that embarrasing bodies didnt pay for that one.

ouryve · 27/03/2010 23:44

Exactly, luckykate. I felt so bad for the guy with the badly infected anal fissures, the other week. That had to hurt

BrahmsThirdRacket · 28/03/2010 00:59

I feel really sorry for all of them!

I went to the 4od website but just looking at the descriptions was enough to make me feel ill. Why do people like watching this?! Is like Victorian freak shows.

darksideofthemooncup · 28/03/2010 02:06

Oh ouryve that poor poor man! Although I do wonder about the people who agree to go on it. Do they tell people? or Sky+ it so they can sit down with all their chums to watch their bum/fango/toe surgery???

Hi there, Paula Carter, Channel 4's Viewers Editor, has responded to a number of discussions about the scheduled time (7pm) of Embarrassing Bodies - bit.ly/au6zYg - we'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this?

candyfluff · 01/04/2010 17:35
