I was looking forward to this! I just watched it and it really was cringeworthy. Poor Sophie, she is lovely, but I could barely look at the screen!

My theory is that she was given a book deal, she mentioned that she bought herself a picture when she got the deal. So, her first novel, well novella really, I read it in the bookshop in about 30 mins, was well, slight, shall we say. But she had cotracted with the publisher to produce 2 more books. Soo, the publishers came up with this wheeze to turn her into the new Nigella. The problem is that Nigellas love of food is so enthusiasic that there is no doubting her love of cooking. Poor Sophie just can't compare, I really feel a little sorry for her. I would not be remotely surprised if she had to have cookery lessons before filming, poor girl.

ArcticRoll · 24/03/2010 13:38

It was car crash tv .
Squirmed at the bit where she told us who Dorothy Parker was -thanks Sophie.

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 13:42

Sorry to go against the grain but I think I might be a teensy bit in love with Sophie after watching last night

But nowhere near as much as my DH who described it as food porn.

squeaver · 24/03/2010 14:28

She is incredibly beautiful though isn't she?

lucykate · 24/03/2010 14:30

she is stunning, has a lovely voice too (what comes out can sound a bit patronising though!)

lucykate · 24/03/2010 14:33

sorry, posted too soon!

meant to add ...although it's scripted, she's merely the presenter, bbc have come up with the format, recipes, bet it's even one of the bbc research team's grandmas that she keeps referring too.

kickassmama · 24/03/2010 15:02

I didn't think it was that bad!i really liked the look of the peanut butter fudge and them chery choc pots.

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/03/2010 15:35

am making the fudge tomorrow I think...

TheSteelFairy2 · 24/03/2010 16:11

Just watched it on Sky plus. I really liked it. Said at the end that she wrote it and created the recipes etc. I think she is lovely.

ChildOfThe70s · 24/03/2010 17:02

She is very beautiful, but she looks weird when she smiles, just like Russel Brand. I don't mean she looks like Russell Brand, I mean he too looks much less attractive when smiling!!

Where was poor Jamie Cullum while she was having a lovely self indulgent day anyway? DH kept joking that she had popped him up on a shelf somewhere so he didn't fall in the melted chocolate.

It was v.cringeworthy and yet somehow riveting. I deeply object to her using a Smith's track though, not sure Morrissey would approve!

DrNortherner · 24/03/2010 17:06

I saw her interviewed and she just seemed to be trying so hard to speak well and use really long words. She is however incredibly beautiful.

She was known as a plus size model for about 1 year when she was about 19, and she is now in her 30's, the plus size thing ovb stuck!

noeyedear · 24/03/2010 17:10

I got bored halfway through. Her voice was so dull! When she mentioned her book,I thought she's just one of those women with family money that doesn't really have to do a days work, so just dabbles in lots of things that they're not really any good at and gets indulged by publishers/TV companies/anyone else they feel like. Then I got really annoyed, because I thought of all the people with talent and no connections who could have done a much better cookery programme grrr!

helyg · 24/03/2010 17:15

I actually quite liked it

helyg · 24/03/2010 17:18

OK, I've come out of hiding to qualify that last statement...

Yes, its fluffy rubbish. No it won't inspire me to cook anything. But it's quite enjoyable to watch, much the same as Kirsty Alsopp is.

Just because I'm unlikely to spend a selfish day shopping for cheese, any more that I am likely to gold leaf pears, doesn't mean it isn't fun to watch in a fluffy lifestyle-y way.

cornflakesforlunch · 24/03/2010 19:12

Oh I loved it.She seems refreshing and light and kind.I have her cookbook too which is full of gorgeous recipes and pictures. She makes me smile and I love TV that I can relax, drink wine with and eat Green and Blacks. In all the print interviews Ive read she answers honestly and has such a sweet resect for her family (and husband).Ill be watching them all

"She is very beautiful, but she looks weird when she smiles, just like Russel Brand. I don't mean she looks like Russell Brand, I mean he too looks much less attractive when smiling!!" They both do that gum thing when they smile, I think.

HerHonesty · 24/03/2010 20:10

yup i'd have respect for my family if they'd set me up with the trust fund that she no doubt enjoys.

sorry, sickly sweet fake cloying annoying wast of licence payers money. What was the point?

wildstrawberryplace · 25/03/2010 21:33

Just watched this on BBC iplayer.

Christ I was temporarily blinded by her blimmin engagement ring. Then I thought how noticeable it was that she just didn't seem very comfortable with the food, handling it, breaking eggs. Looks to me like she can't actually cook.

sazzerbear · 27/03/2010 20:54

She is the BFG - dreadful tripe!

KAEKAE · 27/03/2010 22:45

God this programme made me feel totally cringy....Why on earth was SD trying to act like Nigella Lawson? Bugged the hell out of me.

birdsandblossoms · 28/03/2010 20:55

just watched this on iplayer and i liked it its just what i thought it would be like Sophie wafting about talking keich. I love her fake home and all the little flowers in jam jars etc its quite like my own house which imo is lovely . I hate cooking though and only watch for the interiors will record the rest of the season. shes is very very pretty gorbeous eyes but not as beautiful as Nigella as for that Heston guy i cant stand him...

Katisha · 30/03/2010 21:13

Aaaarrrrghghgh

Will watch no more

nevin35 · 08/04/2010 18:55

anyone know where to get the wallpaper?

pollydianasmummy · 08/04/2010 20:11

I beleive the wallpaper is Neisha Crosland - a designer who is also a Dahl....

MollieO · 13/04/2010 20:45

Can't really believe I am still watching this crap but Miss Dahl has excelled herself tonight. She was doing something with chocolate and mentioned how her father fed his dogs chocolate and she knew that they shouldn't have chocolate but the dogs 'thrived on it'. Howabout mentioning that chocolate has a chemical that can KILL dogs? WTF .
