Not showing the British workers in a good light at the moment.

I'm watching and finding it really depressing.

thehillsarealive · 24/02/2010 21:25

i am watching it by accident so lets see how the UK population are portrayed (sp)

JollyPirate · 24/02/2010 21:26

Hard to know if it's the editing or if our young unskilled people are really not employable. The farming one was bad and the potato factory where both workers were late and the third one didn't even turn up.

All were full of bluster at the beginning.

Out of the 3 English workers at the beginning, 1 didn't turn up, having sent a text at 12midnight to say he's only just got in and would be too tired to work and the other 2 were 30 mins late, after one was kept up by a child. Their attitude was appalling, claiming not to understand someone who spoke perfectly adequate English.

The implication is that they really don't want to work or that they want money for doing nothing.

Heated · 24/02/2010 21:29

Wonder how they came to be chosen?

thehillsarealive · 24/02/2010 21:29

lazy lazy lazy people.

JollyPirate · 24/02/2010 21:31

Interesting as I had thought that foreign workers were paid less but the builder employer says that's not the case.

Hope the editor of the Daily Mail is watching.

fishie · 24/02/2010 21:32

why are they plasterboarding that nice house?

Heated · 24/02/2010 21:34

My father is employing mostly Polish contractors at the moment for whom nothing is a problem and they work til late until the job is done. Fired the UK firm who were stroppy with the site team, work was substandard and not to schedule.

Hulababy · 24/02/2010 21:36

JollyPirate - I think the DM readers are appearing on this programme - have you heard some of the views of the random people in the street?!

JollyPirate · 24/02/2010 21:38

Food poisening is bad luck but yet another one not in. Hope that the one remaining worker can show some good stuff.

Very interesting programme.the british ones are so unreliable I don't understand it.I use a mixture of local and czech guys for my renovations. The czech guys do work harder charge less and never complain. Its strange when work and money is so scarce atm

Heathcliffscathy · 24/02/2010 21:38

sad indictment of both british work ethic and attitude to life in general and immigrants in particular.

JollyPirate · 24/02/2010 21:39

The views of the public are shocking - what an eyeopener - hope some of them are watching.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 24/02/2010 21:40

My main problem has always been that I cannot leave the british ones because if I do invariably they bugger off and down tools!Whereas polish/czech work at full throttle til its done and I can turn up anytime and they are there

JollyPirate · 24/02/2010 21:44

Has he just walked off....?

No - off for a fag

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 24/02/2010 21:46

he wasn't saying 'speed up slow down' he was saying 'work fast and efficiently' you utter moron.

thehillsarealive · 24/02/2010 21:47

i have to say we had a polish builder and a couple of his team to do our bathroom renovation. He was spot on - worked hard, smoked lots, didnt finish until late, chatted to my kids, loved my dog. I fed him, dropped him at the train station (he came out from London each day) and he was back again 8.00 next morning.

As an aside - did they choose the ugliest, most gormless looking twunts they could find???

hmmf - what an advert for the hardworkers amongst us.

noddyholder · 24/02/2010 21:48

God this bloke is hopeless

thatsnotmymonkey · 24/02/2010 21:49

the young kid in the restaurant is being good. i like him

MarionCole · 24/02/2010 21:50

To be fair he's the only one who is trying though

badgermonkey · 24/02/2010 21:50

"It's hard work" - yes, that's why they call it WORK, you numpty.

Heathcliffscathy · 24/02/2010 21:51

bless him for going back, but it's really not good enough is it....

and ali is a saint!

LackaDAISYcal · 24/02/2010 21:51

It's a real eye opener for me....the bloke on the potato packing line is unbelievable!

He should be shown the door for his attitude alone.
