I actually thought what a lovely relationship the three of them must have had. Steve made me laugh because I think it spoke volumes about they way they were. She said in between contractions that that's what they're like with each other all the time and as someone else said, after three previous babies, if she found him to be unsupportive and off-putting I'm sure she'd have the confidence to tell him to piss off and leave her alone!

onehotmama · 10/02/2010 09:09

She obviously loves him but I'd had kicked him so hard in the nuts he'd never be able to give me any more babies, if I was his wife.

sowhatis · 10/02/2010 09:16

he was a total twat. end of!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/02/2010 09:17

Steve was a total knob, the blown up glove and trying to lock her in the lav especially. I really liked Lisa.

ConnieComplaint · 10/02/2010 09:22

Lisa's husband was there, he was her stong silent supporter (that's what it seemed like to me, as I also have a strong silent type!!)

But Steve....now Stever needed kicking firmly between the legs. Did anyone hear him mimick "I'm going to do it all naturally" when his wife asked for some gas & air? What a knob!!

And yes, she may be used to his twattishness, but it didn't stop me wanting to kick him.. and her sometimes actually...

Anyway, next week's was advertised afterwards & the dark haired girl seemed more 'normal' - she told her partner to stop walking 'cos he was annoying her. I recall during the birth of dd, asking dh to stop breathing

BornToFolk · 10/02/2010 09:22

I would have found him irritating beyond belief BUT I'm not his wife. She was laughing along with him and that seemed to be her way of coping with the labour.

And as for the other guy, if I was on camera at a time like that, I wouldn't be saying much either. Some people are not comfortable being filmed!

I had a little tear in my eye when the babies were born too. The look on Lisa's face when she heard the baby cry made me well up too.

Merrylegs · 10/02/2010 09:23

If his attempt to lock her in the toilet had worked and she had had a contraction in there, I think that would have been grounds for abuse, actually.

thesteelfairy · 10/02/2010 09:52

What an unbelievable pr*ck of a man. I honestly think I would have taken his head off if he was my dh and had behaved like that when I was in labour.

Great programme though. Shed a few tears I must admit.

thesteelfairy · 10/02/2010 09:53

When Lisa said "why isn't he crying?" took me straight back to ds's birth, I had emergency CA as well and said the same thing.

mii · 10/02/2010 10:59

I worked with a bloke just like him, didn't matter what the situation or how serious something was he was just trying to be mr funny.

God knows how his wife put up with him

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/02/2010 11:05

didn't she say he was a short arse ? perhaps he is just compensating for that by trying to be 'funny'

elmofan · 10/02/2010 11:25

id have killed him & blamed the hormones
maybe the idea of the teenage son being there was to turn him off having children until he is a lot older .

spookycharlotte121 · 10/02/2010 12:11

wow that steve guy was very childish.

I think the son was quite sweet and seemed really concerned for his mum when the husband wasnt around.

I dont know how she coped with him behaving like thaat though. I would have really hurt him if he had behaved like that whilst I was in labour.

The other girl seemed very seet and i found her whole thing ery sad about her poorly baby. I hope theyre able to make him better. Was horrible that she couldnt see him for 6 hours. Wehn I had ds i was rushed into theatre afterwards and seperated from him nd it broke my heart.

youmaynotlikethis · 10/02/2010 12:15

lighten up ladies pmsl he was funny, why does life have to be sooo serious, great guy imo

sincitylover · 10/02/2010 12:32

was he the one that was wearing a suit jacket throughout the labour - I thought that was rather strange tbh

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/02/2010 13:42

oh come on,he wasn't funny -he was being a childish dick

RebeccaRabbit · 10/02/2010 14:29

Steve and Tracy must have been together for about 20 years (oldest DS 18). They've raised 3 kids together so it must work for them.

I didn't find him funny but Tracy obviously does and he's a dad who's been there for his family, not buggered off like many have.

Slartybartfast · 10/02/2010 14:44

i did post a comment about how i have quite gone off mn.
after posts like this.
but it didnt work,

tis a conspiracy

saggyhairyarse · 10/02/2010 14:44

He came across as aloof and trying to be (not) funny didn't help. There is a time and a place and locking your wife in the toilet is just bloody wrong in those circumstances, I can't think of anyone that would have found that funny mid-labour.

The midwife thought he was a dick, she cut him short after the 'conception' joke.

My DH and I laughed a lot when I was in labour but he didn't laugh at me in pain!

How much did he love himself, strolling the corridors in his Miami Vice suit thinking he was the dogs bollocks.

That poor woman, she didn't need a 4th child as she has him to contend with...

cakeywakey · 10/02/2010 15:08

I agree with other posters that he was probably playing up to the camera, and that they seemed to have a 'jokey' relationship. Also, everyone reacts differently at a delivery, it's a strange situation to find yourself in and there's no telling how people will react.

Having said that, if my DH had done any of the things Steve did, I would probably have committed GBH between contractions

And for Lisa's DH, he simply looked to be in shock to me, which by the sound of other posts he was. She made me cry when she asked about why her baby wasn't crying - I hope they are all doing well now.

YoureGorgeous · 10/02/2010 19:10

did we find out why the kid was there

OP posts:
Cyb · 10/02/2010 19:11

I watched it on 4od (the bit I missed) and it didn;t say

Slartybartfast · 10/02/2010 19:24

she wanted the kid there, to see his new baby brother, or they all wanted it, can't remember.

swottybetty · 10/02/2010 19:33

oh calm down everyone.

lisa and him seemed like they had a great thing going on. she dealt really well in labour - we all assume that's despite him, but is noone going to entertain possibility that she got on so well because of him?

the suit comment is just not necessary. maybe just come from work.

his behaviour was strange, yes and would have irritated life out of me. but his dw clearly loves him lot and his jokinhg part of whole package.

pack away those judgy pants and let's be happy for a couple getting on so well for so long.

pointydog · 10/02/2010 19:40

The moral is, don't go on the telly.

If you are normal you will look like a twat.

If you are twattish, you will look like an utter bellend.
