Soap stars and their "drunk" acting

Does anyone else find it really cringe-worthy?

Just watched Eastenders whre Bianca and several cast memebers were drunk. They just can't act drunk.

And Peter Barlow and Steve McDonald in Corrie. Both crap drunk actors.

Makes me want to turn off.

I think P Barlow is good as a drunk! Have to agree about Steve Mac tho.

MirandaBailey · 08/02/2010 20:59

They're crap because they "act drunk" whereas a truly drunk person tries to act sober.

Nowt to do with drinking, but Gail Platt though, blimey - how unfortunate can one woman be!

5inthebed · 08/02/2010 21:01

I know! She has a dodgy track record. No bloke in their right mind would marry her!

Have to disagree about Steve McDonald being a crap actor (I know that's the character, but ykwim). Think he's one of the best in Corrie!

5inthebed · 08/02/2010 21:42

Oh I love Steve McDonald, and agree he is a good actor, but he can't act drunk.

I like Steve Mac too

he seems a bit one-dimensional, but many blokes are

is anyone else just sick of the sight of Gail Platt's (or whatever the feck her name is now....) face ??

seasalt · 08/02/2010 21:46

Kevin Webster is the best at acting drunk. Watched The September Issue last night and thought Anna Wintour looked like Gayle Platt

5inthebed · 08/02/2010 21:47

Sick of her face, her whiney voice, her ET neck....I think she should join Joe.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 08/02/2010 21:49

that boat scene tonight was crap wasn't it

he wasn't in a swimming pool was he ???

lol

and I thought Gail and Joe were skint...that was a pretty swish lakeside apartment they were staying in

5inthebed · 08/02/2010 22:08

It was crap. And why did he all of a sudden just sink? Titanic it aint!

That other couple looked quite disgusted that they were argueing, lowering the tone of the lake no doubt

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 08/02/2010 22:26

and what a lot of noise he made....

he was supposed to be disappearing quietly

but Gail hurt his wrist when they were having a set-to, so he couldn't hang on to the boat

that's another husband she's bumped off then....

Have been laughing all weekend at Peter Barlow's "Where's that case of Italian red?"

lovemynano · 09/02/2010 09:50

I like Peter and his strange combed-forward black hair and bugger's grips! Pmsl at the case of Italian red, and also last night's "if I was a real drunk I'd be drinking whisky" (clink of bottle in the filing cabinet).

And is it me, or has Kieran developed a strange googly eye with a life of its own - like Tony - since he was last on Corrie?

SilveryMoon · 09/02/2010 09:52

I thought Bianca was great last night

Pineapplechunks · 09/02/2010 09:56

I only watch EastEnders so only know of the rubbish drunk acting that goes on there.

However, Phil Mitchell is brilliant at it, very convincing(looking at his complexion and beer gut I think he has plenty of practise in real life). Rather stomach churningly though when he is drunk he reminds me of my ex

mawbroon · 09/02/2010 10:07

I was also going to say that I think Phil Mitchell plays a drunk the best.

However, none of them are truly convincing because they just can't act getting their eyes glazed over with huge dilated pupils the way that they do in RL when completely steaming.

Or so I've heard anyway.

lovemynano · 09/02/2010 10:12

Not sure how they get drunk so much - they always seem to leave their drinks in pubs (I have never, in my entire life, left a drink undrunk in a pub!)

PuppyMonkey · 09/02/2010 10:16

Ken Barlow doing drunk was the funniest thing I've ever seen, he was rubbish.

ProfYaffle · 09/02/2010 11:33

I like the way drink always seems to affect their neckwear, you can tell they're drunk when the top button comes undone/tie goes wonky.
