Come Dine with Me

I think this is my favourite programme on TV. I have watched it for years and a few contestants have stuck in my memory (that hideous PR woman Isobel who had a strategy to score everyone terribly) However, this weeks' episodes took the biscuit! Please tell me I am not the only one to want to slap "Steve" who behaved so badly at the nurse's "curry night". I could have cried for her and I can't believe they all let him get away with it!!

I love watching it as well. I thought Steve was a bit OTT,really felt for the hostess (can't remember her name). Her food looked lovely, much better than his poor excuse the following night.

satc2bringiton · 07/02/2010 10:08

Oh Steve was such an idiot on the curry night. That would of been the winning meal for me.

Also I got really annoyed when they kept refering to Caroline as 'Single Mum' - so rude!

Imisssleeping · 07/02/2010 18:32

Diane knew he didn't like curry or coriander but she served him coriander for every single course. If he had been a vegetarian she would have served him something else, a good hostess would have done the same for Steve.

PigeonPair · 07/02/2010 19:18

Yes I noticed they kept calling her a "Single Mum" too in a sort of dismissive way - not good!

The contestants have to submit their menus well in advance I think, and are not allowed to change them so Diane wouldn't have been able to change hers (am guessing veggie's/vegans/coeliacs etc. also have to state that in advance). It was a shame that he didn't like curry but it was the complete lack of manners that got to me. A good guest would have shown his hostess some respect and tried to eat it without the song and dance. What a drama queen. I hope he felt embarrassed when he watcher it back!!!

is he the one that retched with every course?

I'd have repaid the courtesy - or gone one up and ran to the loo and made loud noises (am a v good actress!)

cookielove · 07/02/2010 19:26

I didn't watch the last one, grrr, i do think that steveover reacted but as Imisssleeping said, she was well aware that he did't like curry or coriander, and on many other shows, people with certain dislikes have been made the dish with that ingredient missing e.g a while back someone didn't like black pudding, and someone did chicken with it as a stuffing but she left one without and did cheese instead, it scored her extra points, cause she was so considerate.

Also as someone who doesn't like spice in food, i completly agree with him, and if i knew how much chillies had gone in i wouldn't have tried it, it physically hurts me to eat it, and not at any age will i grow out of it, as steve was told to do.

lilolilmanchester · 07/02/2010 19:42

not sure what the rules are, can they change their menus? If so, would have tried to do something different for Steve. That said, he behaved appaulingly, he could have just left it to one side quietly.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2010 19:47

I love this programme

I thought that Steve was sexy at first...he had "twinkly" eyes, but he soon showed himself up as a dick

what a softarse...crying over a few spices...pathetic

yup, he was a WIMP. Someone I know is on CDWM right now!!!

cookielove · 07/02/2010 19:55

It is not being a wimp to not like spices, i really don't like the attitude that your a softarse if you can't handle spice. Clearly you have no idea what it feels like to eat something that makes your mouth hurt.

Yes he over reacted, and made a big deal out of something, and chose not to eat it, but he doesn't like spice and nothing is nothing is going to change that.

lilolilmanchester · 07/02/2010 19:58

Cookielove, you're right and I'm sorry, you're not a wimp just cos you don't like spices. Fair enough. But to make SUCH a fuss when someone has spent the whole day cooking for you, then that IS wrong and behaving like that does make you a self-centred wimp. He could have hated the food quietly.

cookielove · 07/02/2010 20:06

I really have to defend my self (i come from a family of spice lovers) so that is prob why i picked up on these kind of comments.

They say that the scotch bonnet is the hottest, of all chillies, that is what is like just eating normal chillies for me. Not a pleasent experience, i think though we can all agree steve did over react, and should have dropped the issue quickly, as it had such a bad reaction with the host. I would be offended by that reaction to.

I personally would love to go on come dine with me, but i think i would be to fussy to try it.

GoldenSnitch · 07/02/2010 20:10

Chilli makes my face swell up so I couldn't have eaten any of that menu.

I agree that Steve was a dick for making such a fuss (he knew the menu in advance, I'd have eaten before I came then just tried to eat round the chilli - he didn't seem to even try the rice ffs!) but how hard would it have been for her to set aside some of the minced lamb/yogurt dressing/chicken curry before she added the spice to make him a milder version? She knew he hated spice and corriander, she could have worked round it without changing the menu.

lilolilmanchester · 07/02/2010 20:19

yes, maybe she could have done that, but hence my question - are they allowed to do that? The first person to cook wouldn't know who liked what, so perhaps unfair for those coming later?

PigeonPair · 07/02/2010 20:20

One of the funniest was when that guy in Liverpool made crepe suzette with a blue orange liqueur - everything turned blue and he couldn't understand why. I just LOVE this programme!!!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 07/02/2010 20:20

That's right, Goldensnitch - that's what makes a good host.

Monty100 · 07/02/2010 20:22

Lilo - which one did you know on tonight's CDWM?

cookielove · 07/02/2010 20:23

Earlier i posted that people have changed their dish slightly to accomadate peoples taste, clearly these have been later in the week, and not the first night, it is allowed as it has been done.

lilolilmanchester · 07/02/2010 20:25

Monty, initials KO
