I'm getting addicted to watching this before I go to work, when I should really be doing other (houserelated) things! Anybody else? They always have interesting families on there and once I've seen them I just have to watch to the end. so I know which decision they came to!

Have not watched it for a while,i watched phil down under the other night and really enjoyed that.

ShowOfHands · 25/01/2010 19:49

I love the super technical, spin a laminated flag bit. They clearly know they look like dorks stood under a palm tree spinning a piece of card but the producer's just out of shot forcing them to do it.

And the children always want to go home to their friends.

And the 'CRY NOW, CRY DAMN YOU CRY' videos that aren't at all orchestrated to make good telly.

ShowOfHands · 25/01/2010 19:50

"Linda and Terry had a lovely time down under paid for by the show and enjoyed the work that we found for them and the sunbathing that the BBC budget provided. But on reflection they're staying in their 3 bed semi in Hull."

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/01/2010 19:51

Did they choose NZ this morning?

sazzerbear · 25/01/2010 21:01

I've yet to see a family who've moved down under!! Agree with ShowOfHands!!

northender · 25/01/2010 21:03

Five, yes they did choose NZ, another closet WDU watcher here

squeezylouisie · 25/01/2010 23:06

and here...I always start blubbing at the family videos bit and its not even my family!!

jellybeans · 25/01/2010 23:12

You just know that 9 times out of 10 they will choose the beach option no matter what!

mama2moo · 26/01/2010 10:37

I love it!!

What really annoys me is that they always moan about the flight when they get off of the plane - Do they realise that if they move there they wont be doing it every week??!!

I wish they did a follow up show so that we could see if they actually did move or just got a freebie holiday

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 21:28

I was on todays show

(have namechanged though to avoid outing myself!)

mama2moo · 26/01/2010 21:35

celebforaday On BBC1?? Are you joking?

jasper · 26/01/2010 21:41

neighbours of mine were on it a year ago.

They are still my neighbours

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 21:52

No, I'm not joking, seriously! I was only on briefly though! It was my best friend and her husband and DC who spent a week in Perth!

mama2moo · 26/01/2010 21:59

Cool!! Have they moved there now? Was it a free holiday or did they have to do a lot?

No, they havent moved there yet. She is still not sure she wants to go, yet her DH has his heart set on it! If they do go it'll probably be next year.

The BBC paid for them to go for a week but they paid extra to keep the accommodation on for an extra week so that they could have a bit of a holiday while they were there. The first week they were filmed 5 out of 7 days and they were pretty much full days too. Apparently it was very hard going (even more so with 3 DC under 5!).

LetThereBeRock · 26/01/2010 22:19

I've been reading your friend's husband's posts on the British expat forums Celeb.

It's been very interesting to be able to learn more about the making of the show now that the confidentiality agreement no longer applies.

LetThereBeRock · 26/01/2010 22:23

I presume you were on the friends and family video they always show?

I'm curious to know your usual MN name now.

LetThereBeRock · 26/01/2010 22:25

Not that I expect you to reveal that of course.

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 22:31

I was quite surprised at some of the editing - but then knew that they'd edit it to emphasise the fact that she isnt sure on going yet he really wants to. It obviously makes better viewing that way!

Yes I'm L's best friend and also godmother to the 2 youngest children. Will really miss them if/when they go . They filmed and interviewed me for about an hour which was cut down into about 10 seconds of video lol

MN is my escape from RL though so dont want to tell you who I am, sorry!

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 22:31

X-posted

LetThereBeRock · 26/01/2010 22:35

An hour? Did you just talk about how much you'd miss them for that time? Or did they ask other questions, or were there breaks? That seems like a long time to discuss one topic but typical of filming I suppose.

They do have incredibly adorable children.

I hope you've been working on your autograph.

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 22:49

They asked me allsorts! What they were like as a family, describe L as a person and as a mother, how long we had been friends (since we were in nursery together!), how often i saw her, what we did together, how much I'd miss them, how much I played a part in the childrens lives, whether I helped L out with the children, whether I thought they should go, what they'd miss about the UK, what they'd enjoy about Oz, whether I thought they'd have a better lifestyle over there, would it be better for the children, ...... and so it went on!! No there were no breaks in the filming, just an hour of questions really!

celebforaday · 26/01/2010 22:51

And I havent had time to work on my autograph yet, I've spent the day shooing papparazzi away from the door

LetThereBeRock · 26/01/2010 22:54

LOL.You'll have to get used to that I'm afraid.
