I was dubious at first, but then after about 4/5 episodes I loved it. I found it helped by reading the book on which it's based. That helped me to understand Dexter the character better.

boardbunny · 21/01/2010 23:09

Stick with it, you will end up fully on Dexter's side, serial killer or not! Particularly enjoyed series 2.

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 22/01/2010 08:24

It was recommended to me by somebody I get on with and she is really intelligent, BUT she wants to bring back hanging so when I watched the first two I thought, ah.....

I will stick with it though, because vigilante or not,,,,, it's only TV!!!

Will download series 2 next... downloading is my new religion.

yes fab

but its a shame they dont stick with the storyline in the books

they made series 2+ 3 ending different

squeaver · 22/01/2010 16:45

But I don't think we're supposed to endorse the vigilantism are we? I like that it's all morally grey. We watched the first 2 series then stopped mind you

squeaver · 22/01/2010 16:48

Do you know he's married to his on-screen sister in real life?

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 22/01/2010 16:49

no i didn't know that! the sister seems strangely nervous all the time in the first series anyway.

OP posts:
differentID · 22/01/2010 18:27

the actor has cancer I believe.

messygarden · 22/01/2010 18:31

He is married to his on screen sister and I believe at the moment he is cancer free and filming another series.

I like it, have watched all of the series.

I don't think it is vigilantism - the fact is that Dexter has a "dark passenger" within him who will not be satisfied unless he kills people. So Dexter channels the dark passenger to kill people who will pose a risk to society (typically a criminal whose prosecution has failed etc). Rather than just killing senselessly. There is a murder in the majority of episodes, or at least every other IIRC.

HTH!

SnotBaby · 22/01/2010 18:31

Oh no, sorry to hear that, he's fab. Gorgeous in Six Feet Under, too.

chickensaresafehere · 22/01/2010 18:34

Dexter is awesome. Season 4 has such a sad ending. Didnt think they would be able to do a 5th series.

messygarden · 22/01/2010 18:38

DH says they are def filming a 5th starshaker

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 22/01/2010 18:40

i was just reading on wikipedia the plots of all the series. i knew those glass slides would get him in to trouble

OP posts:
starshaker · 22/01/2010 18:44

starshaker · 22/01/2010 18:52

cocolepew · 22/01/2010 18:53

Phew! thought I'd missed it. Thanks

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 22/01/2010 19:38

We are another household who love Dexter. It's absolutly fab.

Didn't know his sister was his wife, so to speak

And yes he has been battling Hodgkins Lymphoma

Michael C Hall

mozette · 23/01/2010 09:35

Love it in this house too! Stick with it - you will be backing the serial killer in no time!

insertexpletive · 23/01/2010 11:26

I LOVE Dexter - really looking forward to the next series - did not ralise that Michael Hall has cancer though

I am a bit of an American 'drama' sad person though - I love Brothers and Sisters, Desperate Housewives, House, and too amy others to mention - Never get to watch them 'live' though as always somethings else to do. Thank God for V+...

queenoftheslatterns · 23/01/2010 11:48

love dexter, love it, love it, love it. i love the way it makes you question your own morality, i love the way the characters have developed throughout the series (agree iits a shame that they didnt follow the story in the books - especially the cody/astor thing, although not sure how they could show THAT) stick with it. in the pilot Dexter is much closer to the Dexter in the books, a much darker, nastier character, in the series you get a real sense of his struggle. he wants so badly to be normal but he is a slave to his "dark passenger"

does anyone know when season 4 airs in the uk?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2010 15:03

its not so much of the cody storyline but that fact the black policeman who cant talk, dies in the shed that gets blown up

in the books he isnt dead, so why the hell kill him in the series
